The Realme 5i is another quality entry-level phone

Another budget offering

Published

on

Realme just announced their latest budget offering — the Realme 5i. At first glance, it looks similar to its immensely popular sibling, Realme 5. The company is positioning this device as its sibling’s successor, so don’t be surprised that the Realme 5i carried most of the features over.

However, there are subtle differences that make it a stand-out not only among Realme’s offerings but also against other brands.

Features

The Realme 5i looks nearly identical to the Realme 5. However, turning over the back reveals a textured pattern that differentiates it from the laminated plastic back of the former. The company is calling this the “Sunrise Design,” and the phone looks stunning with that design in two colors: Aqua Blue and Forrest Green.

Moving over to the display, Realme 5i has the same 6.5-inch HD screen with an 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. The massive screen translates to an immersive viewing experience.

The camera of the Realme 5 got carried over as well. The quad-camera onthis device consists of a 12MP + 8MP wide-angle-lens + 2MP macro-lens + 2MP portrait-lens setup. The front-facing camera remains the same as well, with the 8MP inside the waterdrop notch doing the job of selfies.

Pricing and availability

The Realme 5i retails for PhP 6,990. However, there’s an PhP 800 discount when you purchase the phone on Shopee using the voucher code REALME12OFF for a limited time.

Alleged Windows XP source code leaks online

Source code of other legacy OS from Microsoft leaked too

Published

on

The alleged source code of Windows XP just leaked recently on various platforms online. This huge leak contains everything and reveals some interesting tidbits about the beloved OS.

However, it remains unclear if it’s real or not. The anonymous leaker first posted the source code as a torrent on the popular forum site, 4chan.  The torrent file is a massive undertaking, clocking in at 43GB overall.

It is worth mentioning that the torrent file doesn’t only include the source code for Windows XP. Source codes for MS DOS 3.30, 6.0, Windows 2000, CE 3, CE 4, CE 5, Windows Embedded 7, CE, Windows NT 3.5 and Windows NT 4 are also included. The leaker says that two months were spent compiling all of them.

A smaller 3GB file also exists which only contains the source code for the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The leaker states that hackers have had access to the Windows XP source code for years, and this leak marks the first time it was released to the public.

Interestingly enough, the source code leaks also contain conspiracy theory videos about Bill Gates. MacRumors also pointed out that Microsoft thought about imitating the signature look of macOS way back when it still sported a skeuomorphic design.

Microsoft has already responded to the leaks, saying that they’re “investigating the matter”.

A threat to users?

The leaked source code presents an opportunity for hackers to learn more about Windows’ operating systems. Windows 10 actually has some bit and pieces of Windows XP code.

Savvy hackers can exploit this code to gain access to Windows 10. This threat is feasible, but the risk is low for now. After all, Windows 10 sees continuous development from Microsoft, with legacy code being replaced or modified after updates.

Dell launches XPS 13 2-in-1, upgraded to 11th Gen Intel processors

Thunderbolt 4 has arrived

Dell has updated its XPS 13 2-in-1 lineup by upgrading all the options to 11th Generation Intel chipsets. Also called Tiger Lake CPUs, they’re coupled along with Intel Iris X GPU for a faster and smoother experience.

Intel says the EVO series brings a perfect combination of portability and power, making the laptops very versatile. The base option comes with i3-11564, with a clock speed of 4.1Ghz. The top-end variant gets the i7-116567, a quad-core chipset with a maximum clock speed of 4.7Ghz. RAM can go up to a whopping 32GB.

The XPS 13 2-in-1 has two display options — 13.4-inch UltraSharp 4K InfinityEdge touch or 13.4-inch InfinityEdge touch HD+. On the GPU front, the top end option gets Intel Iris X GPU while the starting one gets Intel UHD graphics. Keep in mind, these are coupled along with the CPU and shouldn’t be considered on par with standalone gaming-dedicated GPUs.

The new 11th Generation Intel processors finally support Thunderbolt 4 and these laptops sport two of them. There’s also an SD card reader and Dell ships a USB-C to USB-A dongle along.

The backlit MagLev keyboard has an embedded fingerprint reader in the power button and along with larger keys, the touchpad is also 19 percent bigger. To accommodate the 2-in1 form factor, a new sequential hinge is designed for better ergonomics.

Backing these internals is a 51Whr battery that Dell says will last you a day of work. To keep the laptop cool, Dell has incorporated dual fans and an ultra-thin vapor chamber with the exhaust vents in the hinge. Lastly, it ships with Windows Home or Windows Pro, depending on usage.
