Uniqlo’s Spring Summer 2019 collection has a piece for your every mood

Just a quick preview of what they have to offer

Uniqlo has always been a brand that creates “clothing designed to bring comfort to everyday life.” I’d know as I’ve gleefully stocked my own closet with their basics. Aside from carrying good-looking garb, Uniqlo also offers awesome clothing like Heat Tech, which has saved this cold girl one too many times.

This Spring Summer 2019 release doesn’t stray from those qualities. A celebration of what the Japanese brand has dubbed as #LifeWear, Uniqlo’s newest collection features clothes that are designed for daily life’s abuses and some tech to add on to these delightful pieces. Here are just some highlights from the collection:

Work closet staples that are comfy

The EZY ankle pants look perfectly serious but are designed to stretch and have a more comfy fit. Perfect for all-day meetings where you need to impress but still want to be comfortable.

Uniqlo also offers a number of crew neck tees and non-iron button up shirts to complete the look.

Classy collaborations for the fashion-forward

British brand JW Anderson and Uniqlo have collaborated to create “basics with a subtle twist,” for those wanting to add more individuality to their wardrobe.

There’s also a themed Saint-Tropez collection with Ines De La Fressange that will transport you to the carefree coastal town. The best part? There are kiddie sizes so you can coordinate with your little ones!

Wireless bras that adjust to your individual shape for when you need support

Featuring a stretch cup that molds to your personal measurements, this bra will fit you just perfectly with all the support you need. No more nasty wires that can dig into skin!

Elastic jeans that fit perfectly for casual days

Take it from Roger Federer, these jeans are just 👌🏽

These EZY Jeans are updated every season to make sure that fabric, design, and fit are top notch. It features an elastic waistband for easy wear every time.

More fun tee designs for when you’re feeling expressive

Even more additions to the UT line and I’m pretty excited! My favorite? This gem I spotted at the event.

Yes, folks! It’s the same Polaroid camera (sort of) I’ve written about before and I am geeking out.

There are also more lovable characters from famous franchises…

Aren’t they all so cute?

High-performance athleisure wear for the sporty chic

Uniqlo’s DRY-EX line are lightweight pieces that wick away moisture — perfect for workouts or lounging on a hot summer day.

Here are more pieces from Uniqlo’s Spring Summer 2019 line on display at the event:

Apple Watch Pride Edition bands celebrates LGBTQ+ movement

Representing the breadth of LGBTQ+ communities and experiences

Published

on

Apple has been continuously supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and it’s been visible ever since the launch of Apple Watch Pride Edition in 2016.

This year is no exception, as Apple introduces a new Apple Watch Pride Edition band and a dynamic watch face on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. The new features embrace a much more colorful presentation, inspired by multiple Pride flags representing the diverse LGBTQ+ community.

Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop

Apple weaved the original rainbow colors together with various Pride flags to represent the diversity among LGBTQ+ experiences.

The Braided Solo Loop tells a collective history of movements spanning across generations and communities, through colors. For instance, the Black and Brown colors symbolize the Black and Latinx communities along with those who have passed away from or are living with HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, light blue, pink, and white represent transgender and nonbinary individuals.

Regarding its material, the band features a stretchable recycled yarn interwoven with silicon threads. It’s designed for comfort even without buckles or clasps. If you’re worried about the fit, there are 12 available lengths of the Braided Solo Loop.

The Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop is compatible with Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 4 or later.

Pride Watch Face

This year, Apple came up with a special Pride watch face. It mirrors the new colors of the band, representing the combined strength and mutual support of the LGBTQ+ movement. When you rotate the Digital Crown, the threads on the watch face infinitely scroll and animate when you raise your wrist.

Additionally, Apple includes a new App Clip functionality to ensure immediate access to the new matching watch face with ease. The 2021 Pride watch face is coming soon as part of a software update. App Clip codes require iOS 14.3 or later.

Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop

There’s also a new Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop, showcasing the six colors of the original rainbow, and utilizes reflective yarn to support those who engage in outdoor workouts, especially at night. The design is comfortable yet durable and infinitely fits any wrists. And of course, it pairs nicely with a corresponding Nike watch face.

The Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop is compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 or later.

Price and availability

The Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop retails for US$ 99 while the Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop is available for US$ 49. Both bands are available at apple.com and the Apple Store app. The Pride Edition bands will be available at Apple Store locations beginning May 25. Meanwhile, the Nike Sport Loop will find its way to nike.com soon.

The new Pride Edition bands are available to order today from apple.com and the Apple Store app, and will be available at Apple Store locations beginning May 25. The Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop is also coming soon to nike.com.

Apple’s long-running financial support towards the LGBTQ+ movement

Apple isn’t a company riding on the LGBTQ+ movement. The latest introduction of these watches is just one of Apple’s commitment to celebrating and supporting the movement.

The company has been working with LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations that bring positive change, including Encircle, Equality North Carolina, Equality Texas, Gender Spectrum, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign, National Center for Transgender Equality, PFLAG National, SMYAL, and The Trevor Project in the United States, as well as ILGA World internationally.

Hearo app translates sign language to voice and text

Developed and improved via the Apple Developer Academy

Published

Hearo

The phrase “There’s an app for that!” became commonplace in the early 2010s. With more people getting their hands on iPhones and other smartphones, the number of available apps also increased. A developer from Indonesia saw this as an opportunity and made the Hearo app.

Hearo is an app that can translate sign language into voice and text, providing a more seamless way to communicate with friends who are deaf. The 23-year-old Aisyah Widya Nur Shadrina created the app along with her her all-women team.

Their goal is “to build a more inclusive community where people can communicate without barriers.” The team gained the experience to do so at the Apple Developer Academy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

They were selected for the Apple Entrepreneur Camp in 2020. There, they received code-level guidance from Apple experts and engineers. This significantly improved the in-app navigation and user experience.

This year, Shadrina and her team will attend the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) virtually happening from June 7 to 11. She says she looks forward to learning more about new Apple technologies, frameworks, and tools that can help developers build more innovative and inclusive apps.

Apple Developer Academy

The first Apple Developer Academy opened in Brazil in 2013. Its goal is to provide the tools and training for aspiring entrepreneurs, developers, and designers to find and create jobs in the thriving iOS app economy.

The program has empowered students around the world with app development and entrepreneurial training. May of the said students have gone on to start their own businesses, create and sell apps on the App Store, and give back to their communities.

Since then, the company has opened more than a dozen academies across the world. Two more are on the way: one in Korea, and one in Detroit, Michigan–the first-ever US location.

Applications for the first academy cohort in Detroit — Apple’s first Developer Academy in the US — open this week. It will open in October in a newly redesigned space in downtown Detroit. It is part of Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative.

All Michigan residents 18 and over are welcomed to apply, regardless of prior coding experience, at developeracademy.msu.edu/students.

5 timeless gifts you can give to a mom anytime of the year

Bizarre gifts on their secret wishlists

Published

By

We’ve seen it all: the kinds of gifts we need to give moms in our lives — whether they’re your mom, someone who’s a long-time mom, a friend who recently became a mom or a colleague that’s soon-to-be a mom. Every year, we get new ideas on how to celebrate them and how to make them feel special.

But this year, we’re taking it differently. We asked a few moms what’s secretly on their wish lists. And y’all, we didn’t expect these responses. Here’s a round-up of the bizarre gifts that we can gift every mom, Mother’s Day or not.

Pregnancy Pillow

Pregnancy is a beautiful journey albeit an arduous one. For Ana, 25, and a soon-to-be mom, body pain and finding comfort have been the biggest issues in her wonderful journey. While she gets excited to see her newborn, she finds it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. For her, having a pregnancy pillow would solve 99 percent of her body pain — which she experiences every day.

Sunset Lamp

Taking walks during sunset could be a therapeutic and beneficial exercise for soon-to-be moms. However, the pandemic imposed restrictions to keep us safe that resulted in a challenging situation where it’s difficult to cope and relax. Sunset lamps offer a good alternative; projecting aesthetically pleasing lighting similar to golden hour. All at the comforts of your own home.

Self-care kit

When you’re a new mom, all your attention and resources shift to providing what your baby needs. To a point where you forget how to take care of yourself. For Lorraine, 31, and a mom to a 10-month old boy, self-care days are a must: getting a massage, going to a spa, having her hair styled, and other treatments to her skin, mind, body, and soul.

Given the dire circumstances, going out is dangerous for her and her baby, which is why she secretly wishes to be gifted by a self-care kit — a massager, hairdryer, hair straightener, and an epilator.

Space-saving and eco-friendly form of transportation

For Jean, 26, and a mom to a 4-year old boy, taking care of your health is more than just about the food you eat and the exercises you do. It’s also taking care of your emotional and mental health, and making a contribution to making the world a better place.

Through a foldable bike, she wishes to lessen her carbon footprint by using an eco-friendly form of transportation and save space, something that meticulous, organized homemakers want. Coincidentally, it’s also a good bonding activity with her kid. Think: mom and son biking on a Saturday afternoon.

A bigger TV

Having a TV is integral in keeping your family together. After all, it is a centerpiece for any home. Jenny, 48, a mom of four young adults, is always concerned about her and her children’s health. Although, secretly, she wishes to have her TV upgraded to a bigger one — at least 55- or 65-inch such as the Samsung Crystal UHD TV — to host movie nights and bond with her children, now that everyone is already having their own lives.

As a long-time mom, Jenny doesn’t like to splurge on what’s the latest gadget or appliance there is in. She wants the best value, and of course, something that lasts for a long time.
