vivo X200 might be your new concert camera

Features up to 100x zoom

Published

on

Last week, MediaTek launched the Dimensity 9400 series. At the time, the chipmaker didn’t announce upcoming smartphones with the chipset yet. Now, quick as lightning, vivo has launched the first flagship with Dimensity 9400 — the vivo X200.

Zooming all the way

The “200” in the flagship’s name represents the vivo X200’s 200-megapixel ZEISS APO Telephoto camera. The main camera has a Sony LYT-818 sensor designed specifically for vivo. It features a 1/1.28-inch sensor size and a 22nm process.

The bigger deal is, of course, the 200-megapixel telephoto lens. It can focus into subjects at up to 100x zoom (using Super Stage Mode), marking a significant change for those who need to capture objects from way afar. Armed with a V3+ Imaging Chip, the smartphone also hosts special features including Super Landscape Mode, Telephoto Macro, Telephoto Portrait, and Pro Sports Mode.

Under the hood

Under the hood, the vivo X200 features the 3nm Dimensity 9400 chipset, bringing the flagship to new levels for gaming and performance. The single Cortex-X925 core can have a maximum clock speed of 3.626GHz. The chipset also comes with a 12-core flagship GPU.

Because of the chipset’s power, the flagship will come with OriginOS 5, an operating system that melds the best of hardware with AI. It supports BlueLM Copilot, AI Notetaking, and AI Copywriting. Users will also get AI Circle to Search.

Additionally, the smartphone boasts realistic images through its screen bolstered with ZEISS Natural Color. It can reach up to 4500 nits in brightness and 120Hz adaptive dynamic refresh rate.

Finally, the vivo X200 sports a huge 6000mAh battery.

Availability

The vivo X200 has launched today in China. It will come in a regular, a Pro, and a Pro mini version. The vivo X200 and X200 Pro will be available in Sapphire Blue, Titanium Grey, Moonlight White, and Carbon Black. Finally, the vivo X200 Pro mini comes in Titanium Green, Light Pink, Plain White, and Simple Black.

Apple is reportedly considering a clamshell iPhone

They will likely wait if the first foldable will be popular.

Apple’s current foldable strategy is just one guy going “wouldn’t it be nice if we had a foldable phone” and everyone else nodding along. For years, Apple has constantly teased the development of its own entry into the market but failing to produce anything other than rumors. Now, while we’re still missing the mythical foldable, the company is reportedly considering a second foldable already: a clamshell iPhone.

Currently, all the previous rumors pointed to a traditional book-style foldable phone from Apple. The forecast says that the device might finally launch this year, but they do say that every year. In the meantime, according to Bloomberg, a clamshell version is already “under consideration.”

It hardly needs reminding that “under consideration” doesn’t mean anything other than “it might happen.” In contrast, the traditional foldable is probably in a “we’re just making sure everything is perfect” phase.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is likely evaluating whether there is enough demand for the first foldable. If, as the company predicts, it takes off, the company will want to capitalize on the hype immediately.

There’s a lot of expectations riding on Apple’s mythical foldable. Sometimes, it even feels like the unreleased phone has reached a point where it can’t possibly meet everyone’s standards. But, at the very least, we hope it does launch this year.

Nothing will not release a Phone (4) this year

But the Phone (4a) is still scheduled.

Nothing Phone 3

Last year, Nothing offered a worthy alternative to the usual flagship brands. Though the Phone (3) edged closer and closer to flagship-level prices, the smartphone is still a decent performer through and through. This year, however, a Phone (4) is not in the works.

Through a new YouTube video, Nothing’s Carl Pei has confirmed that the brand will not release a Phone (4) this year. The Phone (3) will still be the brand’s flagship option throughout 2026.

Pei did not reveal any explicit reason why they couldn’t make a new flagship this year. However, he does say that he wants every upgrade to be meaningful.

Despite the lack of a flagship, Nothing’s work will continue through the (a) series. The brand will release the new Phone (4a), for which Pei is promising a revolution. He says that there will be significant upgrades which will push the series closer to a flagship-like experience. It will also have new designs.

Unfortunately, the new phone might not come cheap. Along with the phone’s announcement, Pei confirmed that prices might increase this year, as a response to spiking RAM prices. It’s unclear how much it’s changing, though.

At the very least, the (a) series is usually priced competitively. However, if the increases affect the entire lineup, the flagship’s prices might go up to even more concerning levels.

MediaTek unveils Dimensity 9500s, 8500 mobile processors

For flagship, premium mobile devices

Published

MediaTek has officially unveiled the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500 mobile processors built for flagship and premium smartphones.

These latest platforms are meant to propel performance, gaming, and efficiency on higher-end mobile devices, while also introducing improvements in AI, imaging, wireless connectivity, and more.

Dimensity 9500s

The Dimensity 9500s adopts a flagship 3nm process and an All Big Core architecture. Its octa-core CPU utilizes one Cortex-X925 ultra core with up to 3.73GHz of clock speed, three Cortex-X4 premium cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores.

Together, the system empowers devices to fully unleash powerful performance while staying energy efficient.

Moreover, the Dimensity 9500s integrates the Immortalis-G925 GPU for a full-frame, immersive experience for heavy mobile games. This includes support for advanced ray tracing.

In addition, adaptive game technology 3.0 and frame technology 3.0 improve energy efficiency significantly to prolong battery life.

Meanwhile, the flagship NPU in the processor is optimized for generative reasoning and multi-modal models for a more powerful flagship edge camera and greater content generation capabilities.

The chip supports high-frequency functions like post-processing of live photos, AI photo editing, AI content summarization, and more.

Lastly, the Dimensity 9500s is equipped with an advanced MediaTek Imagiq image processor, which supports real-time 30fps motion tracking and 8K full-focus Dolby Vision HDR video recording.

Dimensity 8500

Equally energy efficient is the Dimensity 8500, which has a 4nm process and All Big Core CPU architecture.

This is composed of eight Cortex-A725 cores with a frequency up to 3.4GHz. The chip supports accurate scheduling technology and DDR5 memory with higher transmission speed so users can enjoy smooth and long battery life for daily apps and multitasking.

With an integrated Mali-G720 GPU, the Dimensity 8500’s peak performance is improved by 25% compared to the previous generation. And yet, its power consumption is reduced by 20%.

For gaming, the processor can bring players a refreshing experience with full frame stabilization, rapid loading, and high energy efficiency.
