Xiaomi will launch Mi Mix 2S sooner than expected

Won’t let other brands hog the spotlight

We weren’t expecting this to be announced just as Mobile World Congress (MWC) was about to start, but this is it: Xiaomi will officially unveil the Mi Mix 2S next month.

Posted over the weekend as MWC was being set up, this image was shared by the company’s official Twitter account:

Nothing too cryptic here. The words “Mi Mix 2S” and “Snapdragon 845” are clearly spelled out, and Xiaomi’s global spokesperson Donovan Sung states that March 27 is the official launch date.

The only thing out of the ordinary is the six-digit number. Speculation is that this represents a benchmark performance score, which would make sense since the Snapdragon 845 touts being the fastest processor in the land.

The Mi Mix 2S is coming out a little over six months after the original Mi Mix 2, but considering how all brands are scrambling to make their handsets as updated as possible, this mid-year upgrade is vital in the smartphone race.

Beyond the high-end specifications and launch date, not much else is known about the Mi Mix 2S, except that it’s anticipated to have an updated design with a repositioned selfie camera — no longer at the bottom of the device.

Xiaomi has its own booth at MWC 2018, but isn’t expected to show off any major products.

The AirPods competitor from Xiaomi

Xiaomi‘s awaited Apple AirPods copycat has landed in the Philippines. The AirDots Pro was initially introduced earlier this year and you can finally get your own pair of wireless Bluetooth earphones.

There’s no denying that the Xiaomi’s AirDots Pro strongly resembles Apple’s AirPods. Even their names are quite similar; however, the AirDots Pro doesn’t have the same premium price of Apple’s accessory.

The AirDots Pro is a pair of wireless earphones that has a Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, noise-canceling microphones, and touch controls. According to Xiaomi, battery life is up to four hours, while the charging case offers an extra 10 hours. Both Android and iOS are supported by the AirDots Pro.

Through Mi Authorized Stores in the Philippines, the AirDots Pro retails for PhP 3,490. It’s slightly pricier than its launch price in China, but at least you don’t have to ship it anymore. Also, it’s way cheaper than the AirPods.

ASUS ZenFone 6’s Flip Camera survives abuse, phone passes durability test

ASUS’ new phone is built like a tank

To achieve a true bezel-less display with no notch or any cutouts, manufacturers have been really creative. Most have resorted to the use of motors for a pop-up mechanism. ASUS, on the other hand, crafted something different with the new ZenFone 6 and its Flip Camera. It’s impressive, but is it durable?

When we first saw the Flip Camera of ASUS’ new flagship phone, we knew that it poses more concerns than pop-up cameras. However, ASUS has already thought about this and the durability tests of the JerryRigEverything channel on YouTube proves it.

Like many other phones that passed by the table of Zack from JerryRigEverything, the ZenFone 6 underwent abuse. Of course, the Flip Camera of the phone is the main focus. Check it for yourself:

After Zack pushed and pulled the flipping camera, tied random stuff to it, twisted its hinge, and banged it against the table, the ZenFone 6 camera module still worked like a charm. It’s worth noting that the motor of the Flip Camera drives into high gear when it senses a drop. That should keep the camera’s neck from breaking due to a strong impact.

As per ASUS, the ZenFone 6’s camera is rated to last for 100 flips a day in three years. If you don’t take a selfie often, then the Flip Camera will last longer in your care.

Additionally, the whole phone is built to last. It has a relatively standard scratch-resistant glass on both the front and back, an all-metal design that can take a beating, and the phone’s body will not bend in your pocket.
