Xiaomi’s alleged three-panel foldable tablet shows up online

It might be Samsung’s closest competitor

Samsung is not the only prepping a foldable tablet. When the South Korean giant presented their Infinity Flex display last year, we knew it would spearhead a new mobile device category. It’s not yet available for everyone to play with, but it appears Xiaomi already has their own prototype in the works.

Reputable leaker Evan Blass has shared a video (seems like a spy video, to be honest) of what’s believed to be a Xiaomi-made device. It’s a three-panel folding tablet running MIUI.

The dimly lit clip doesn’t show much, but we’re amazed by the fact that it’s a working device that instantly transforms from a tablet into a pocketable phone.

The approach is quite different from Samsung’s, but the concept is very much alike. We have a tablet-sized display providing a landscape view with the two folding side panels to change it to a phone-sized display.

As always, we can’t tell for sure if this is a video of a future Xiaomi device; even Evan Blass doesn’t want to take credit for its authenticity. Anyhow, it’s an interesting 20-second clip that shows the future of mobile devices.

The closest device Xiaomi already has to this is the Mi Mix 3 with its superb bezel-free display and slide-out camera. The Chinese company could be working on a folding device, but we don’t have concrete details about it, yet.
