Key updates on 3 major titles on Opening Night Live

Capcom made a big splash at gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live yesterday. The company revealed more details about Resident Evil Requiem and Onimusha: Way of the Sword through footages.

And together with Square Enix, Capcom previewed a collaboration between Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV Online.

Midway through the three-hour program, Monster Hunter Wilds producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and FFXIV Online director and producer Naoki Yoshida shared the stage to reveal the collaboration between Capcom and Square Enix’s famed role-playing games.

The special collaboration will see familiar elements from the Final Fantasy franchise appear in the Forbidden Lands, including Chocobos.

Players can look forward to encountering the robotic superboss Omega Planetes in an all-new narrative quest as well.

It is not the first time Capcom and Square Enix partnered for a massive content crossover.

Seven years ago, a crossover brought Rathalos to Final Fantasy while Monster Hunter World players were able to fight Behemoths.

More details will be revealed next month, alongside Wilds’ free Title Update 3. For now, here’s a one-minute teaser:

New Resident Evil Requiem footage

Meanwhile, horror fans were treated to an extended look at Resident Evil Requiem. The latest footage revealed provided a glimpse of Grace Ashcroft’s dark past.

Set 30 years after the outbreak in Raccoon City, Resident Evil Requiem follows the protagonist on a new case. The young FBI analyst must return to the scene and face her tragic memories.

This new era of survival horror is creeping to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) on February 27, 2026.

In addition, Capcom has unveiled a special 30th anniversary logo at gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, as the Resident Evil will celebrate its 30th year in March 2026.

This was revealed alongside a special illustration featuring Grace and other characters from the franchise.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword combat showcased

Lastly, a flashy new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword delved into an eerie new locale within its dark fantasy world.

In the process, the latest footage from Capcom at gamescom Opening Night Live revealed the combat mechanics at the core of the swordplay action.

Of course, players will have to master this against monstrous enemies shown in the trailer.

Also, a sinister and enigmatic entity known as Dokyo toils away, creating new Genma. Her twisted creations include:

  • Greater Nue: A ferocious, Chimeric beast that can harness the power of lightning
  • Kogashira: Humans warped by parasitic Genma that create poisonous clouds of Malice
  • Chijiko: A grotesque mass of interwoven human faces with far-reaching tentacles

To crave a path through these abominations, protagonist Musashi Miyamoto wields his own powers, including the iconic Issen and Soul Absorption abilities at the core of the game’s experience:

  • Deflect: Defensive action that reflects attacks back at enemies, including projectiles
  • Parry: Well-timed blocks of incoming attacks that stagger foes and create openings for counters
  • Blazing State: A temporary offensive power-up triggered by landing multiple parries; also generates Blue Souls which fuel special attacks using Oni Power
  • Soul Absorption: Absorb souls of defeated foes at the right moment to recover health, enhance equipment, unlock new abilities, more
  • Issen: High-risk, high-reward counterattack a split-second before enemies land a blow

Furthermore, the trailer provides a glimpse of combat beyond swordplay, including archery and a dual-edged blade with a whirlwind attack.

More details will be revealed as the game approaches its PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) release in 2026.

Valve unveils price of the Steam Frame

The VR headset starts at US$ 1,059.

Published

on

The trifecta is complete. Almost a year after announcing their new hardware, Valve has finally unveiled the price tag of the Steam Frame, complementing the Steam Machine and Steam Controller revealed a few months ago.

Whereas the Steam Machine is a console of its own, the Steam Frame is a traditional VR headset with a pair of controllers for both hands. Unfortunately, despite being in a different segment, the headset is not immune to the rising prices of technology. The Steam Frame will start at US$ 1,059 for a 256GB model and can go up to US$ 1,299 for the 1TB model. On the plus side, each box will come Half-Life: Alyx packaged along with the headset.

Here’s a more detailed rundown of what you’re getting. The Steam Frame will ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM. Each eye comes with a 2160 x 2160 LCD screen, putting out images at up t0 a 144Hz experimental refresh rate. As mentioned above, the headset will start with 256GB of storage but can go up to 2TB. It will come packaged with SteamOS 3 and a rechargeable 21.6Wh battery.

This might be a hard buy for some. The industry currently has more affordable options, for one. Also, virtual reality isn’t the most thriving segment of gaming today.

If you’re still decided on buying one, however, Valve is using its lottery system. Interested customers can sign up from now until September 17. The company will then randomize the purchasing order. Those who draw the first ones in the lottery can get a purchase email as soon as September 18. Meanwhile, anyone who registers after September 17 will automatically be put at the back of the queue.
