Xiaomi 17 Pro Max takes a jab at Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max
Unapologetically similar with Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro in the roster
The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro series were all announced today in China.
Without context, this is much like any other phone announcement.
But, in the grand scheme of things, Xiaomi’s latest announcement just came in a day after the awfully-named (and very mouthful) Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 unveiling at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii.
To make it more odd, the Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro global launch in Munich, Germany was also just a day ahead prior to this Mainland-exclusive launch.
Even weirder, they skipped the 16 lineup altogether.
So… where’s the Xiaomi 16?
Xiaomi was upfront with this change.
Skipping “16” was their strategic shift to directly rival the recently-announced iPhone 17 lineup. And if you thought it stops there, you’re wrong.
For the first time in forever, Xiaomi debuts their very first “Pro Max” model (not replacing the already-existing Ultra flagship).
To make the upfront rivalry more dramatic, both models of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series looked like the iPhone 17 Pro on steroids.
Like Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, the all-new Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max all have a “plateau”-like camera bar up top.
However, Xiaomi takes it to the next level by placing a 2.7 / 2.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED display on that cutout.
It’s like the MIX Flip 2’s cover display was transplanted onto both the 17 Pro and Pro Max models.
Much like any other flip cover screen, it functions as a digital watch, a selfie mirror, even widgets that you can fiddle every once in a while.
Xiaomi even sells an optional Game Boy-like Retro Handheld case for CNY 299 just so you can play games on that mini screen.
Base, Pro, Pro Max
The main differentiating factor of the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro series are their display sizes: Both the base and Pro models have smaller screens at 6.3 inches. The difference? base has OLED, Pro has AMOLED.
Meanwhile. the 17 Pro Max, as expected, directly competes against Apple’s offering with its ginormous 6.9-inch AMOLED panel.
That’s protected by Xiaomi’s Longjing Glass 3.0 whereas the other two only have the first-gen glass protection.
All of them have second-gen LIPO screen technology which makes their bezels ultra-narrow at impossibly 1.18mm.
There’s also 1.5K resolution, adaptive 1~120Hz refresh rate, DC Dimming, and 1 nit ultra-low to 3500 nits max brightness. DCI-P3 wide color gamut is highly-accurate backed by HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certifications.
Speaking of, there are the Dolby Atmos-powered stereo speakers complemented by Hi-Res Audio and Snapdragon Sound support.
The bigger the size, the bigger the battery is.
Obviously, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max possesses the largest at 7500mAh. Weird enough, the vanilla Xiaomi 17 has a bigger 7000mAh capacity than 17 Pro’s 6300mAh battery.
Phones can then be topped up via Xiaomi’s 100W HyperCharge + 50W wireless HyperCharge standard.
Lastly, all three models have triple rear 50MP Leica Camera + Summilux optics with varying differences in hardware:

All phones can record up to 8K / 30fps with only the Pro series being able to shoot 4K / 120fps.
The Elite headliner
Even though Xiaomi has managed to pull off the XRING O1 as its first in-house chipset, it’s not the SoC that powers Xiaomi’s latest flagships.
And unlike last year where the realme GT 7 Pro headlined the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, Xiaomi’s 17 series rocks the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip first in line. That’s regardless if you get the basic or Pro variants.
And as coincidental as it seems, both Qualcomm and Xiaomi made the bold move of skipping numbers: Xiaomi 17 instead of Xiaomi 16; Elite Gen 5 instead of Gen 4 (although Elite 2 would have sounded so much better IMHO).
That’s paired by either 12 or 16GB of LPDDR5X memory together with up to 512GB/1TB UFS 4.0 storage options.
No one gets left behind as all phones boast IP68 water and dust resistance rating for utmost protection against dust, splashes, rain, and water immersion.
All of them also run Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 3.0 with smarter and more powerful AI tools in mind.
Despite rivaling Apple’s latest iPhone 17, the new update makes pairing seamless to Apple devices. Regardless if it’s an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Pricing and Availability
The hero colors of the Xiaomi 17 are the Snow Mountain Powder and Icemelt Blue.

Again, global availability has not been announced. But looking at the past, Xiaomi always reveals their latest flagships to the world during the start of the year. We should expect them to hit international shelves by early 2026.

New Resident Evil Requiem trailer teases a return to the RPD
The title officially launches on February 27.
Fresh off a stellar 2025 filled with award-winning titles, the world of games is now going through a calm before another inevitable storm. We’re still some ways away from the next explosion of amazing titles. For now, however, an upcoming major title is looking to kick off 2026 with a huge bang. Coming very soon, Resident Evil Requiem just got another trailer, and yes, there’s more Leon to go around.
Late last year, Capcom revealed a bombshell announcement it’s been saving up since the title’s big reveal. Resident Evil Requiem will feature the return of the franchise’s most iconic protagonist, Leon Kennedy. The suave agent will play alongside FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who heads to Raccoon City to investigate a series of strange deaths.
Since the two characters clearly have opposing personalities, fans have speculated that they will have opposing playstyles. Now, through a new trailer, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will mix the two genres that the franchise is known for.
Ashcroft, unused to fighting, will have portions more tailored for survival horror, akin to the more recent titles in the series. Meanwhile, Kennedy is back to his gun-toting ways, featuring the same action he’s known for in Resident Evil 4.
Beside the playstyles, there are few Easter eggs for the upcoming title. For example, Sherry makes a very subtle appearance. Also, and this is the kicker, Leon is coming back to Raccoon Police Department in the trailer’s final moments.
Resident Evil Requiem is now available for preorders. The title will officially launch on February 27 for all major platforms.

Jason Momoa will star in upcoming Helldivers film adaptation
Justin Lin is set to direct.
PlayStation’s State of Play is about games. However, there are a few times when the semi-regular event can spawn hype for something outside the realm of gaming. Today is one of those times. Sony Pictures and PlayStation have released more information about the upcoming Helldivers movie adaptation.
Early last year, Sony teased a variety of upcoming adaptations for its tentpole franchises. This announcement included Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, and Helldivers.
Today, as reported by Variety, the Helldivers film finally has a leading man. Jason Momoa, who starred in the Minecraft adaptation previously, will star in the film.
Since the franchise isn’t really known for a specific main character, it’s unknown who the star will play. We also don’t know his co-stars yet.
Alongside Momoa, Justin Lin will direct the film. The director is known for his work with the Fast and Furious franchise.
Plot-wise, the Helldivers franchise seems tailor-made for the movies. It’s not a supremely story-driven game, but its premise is endlessly adaptable. The games always revolve around a group of soldiers called Helldivers, who protect Super Earth from a host of alien threats. These threats include rogue robots and bug-like creatures.
The film, whatever it might tackle, will premiere on November 10, 2027.
Helldivers 2 launched back in 2024. At the time, the game was exclusive for the PlayStation and PC. However, it recently launched on the Xbox, too.

TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G packs an 8000mAh battery
The brand’s biggest battery in a smartphone yet
This 2026, TECNO is refreshing its performance-focused POVA lineup by adding a new member in it.
Big power without the bulk
Despite its slim and curved 7.42mm design (and weight of only 195g), the POVA Curve 2 5G arrives with TECNO’s largest battery yet — 8000mAh battery to be precise.
TECNO says the battery is TÜV SÜD-certified for long lifespan and is engineered to last up to six years. It’s also rated to operate in extreme temperatures ranging between as hot as 60°C (140ºF) or as cold as -20ºC (-4ºF).
If you’re already in a pinch, there’s the 45W fast charging with Bypass charging support in tow.
Durability was not compromised as it has a Corning Gorilla Glass 7i Front Glass protection, IP64 water and dust resistance rating, even SGS-certification for 1.5m drop protection.
Speaking of front, it features a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Beneath that glass lies MediaTek’s Dimensity 7100 5G SoC.
On the software side, it runs the latest HiOS 16 (based on Android 16) with integrated AI tools in mind. That means AI-powered content summaries, writing assistance, call noise reduction, and automatic photo enhancements.
TECNO’s Ella AI Assistant has also been improved with more personalized interactions across the system. One-tap FlashMemo also exists for instantly capturing on-screen information. Moreover, Mind Hub organizes notes and AI-generated content in one place.
Lastly, connectivity gets a boost, too. With POVA Curve 2 5G’s dual-signal enhancement, it has an improved cellular and Wi-Fi performance in crowded or weak-signal environments. Interestingly, it also supports offline voice, text, and image communication up to 1.5km in open areas.
With all these in mind, TECNO promises two major Android OS upgrades.
Pricing and Availability
The TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G comes in three colorways: Melting Silver, Storm Titanium, and Mystic Purple.
It launches first in India this February 2026. Pricing is between INR 31,999 and INR 34,999 for the 8+128GB and 8+256GB configurations respectively.
It will also make an appearance at MWC 2026 this upcoming March 2 until March 5, 2026.
