People set 5G cell towers on fire believing it spread Coronavirus

Along with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, misinformation related to the disease also saw a dramatic increase. One that’s particularly worrying is the absolutely false claim that 5G is helping spread the virus. Let us reiterate — this absolutely false.

An indicator of the gravity of this misinformation is the recent developments that happened in the UK over the past few days. A report by BBC says three 5G cell towers were set on fire in various parts of the country. Police are still investigating the incident, but arson is the likely culprit for the towers’ fire.

Some are speculating that the burning of the towers were prompted by the false information spreading that 5G is helping spread COVID-19. The series of accidents prompted one cabinet minister to declare the whole conspiracy over 5G and COVID-19 as nonsense and dangerous.

The incident also has a very real downside as frontliners rely on mobile data to communicate with one another and their loved ones.

The rise of  5G conspiracy theories

Most conspiracy theories about 5G and its role in the COVID-19 pandemic are available online on Facebook groups. These theories seem to warn about the 5G’s possible danger to the public. One crazy theory stated that Wuhan is the origin of the pandemic since it was one of the first cities to roll out 5G.

However, scientists have not established a clear connection between 5G and the pandemic. Any of these conspiracy theories also failed to account for the rise of COVID-19 cases in countries without 5G yet. Anyone who encounters news and posts about 5G and its danger to the public must be skeptical of the claims.

Serious fact-checking is important during these times when there’s not only a rise in COVID-19 cases, but also a rise in misinformation and deceiving posts.

As general rules, the CDC or The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed these to help with preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Stay home when sick
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Frequently wash hands with soap and water
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces

AMD has announced an expansion of its enterprise desktop lineup with new Ryzen PRO 9000 Series processors. These are built on the Zen 5 architecture and set to debut in the second half of 2026.

This is the first time AMD is bringing its high-bandwidth 3D V-Cache technology into the commercial workstation segment.

This way, the company unlocks massive performance leaps for data-heavy professional industries.

The introduction of 3D V-Cache directly targets power users handling complex, intensive digital pipelines.

By vertically stacking additional last-level cache directly onto the processor die, the hardware drastically cuts down memory latency and accelerates data access.

Primary beneficiaries of this architecture are creative and technical professionals, including:

  • video editors and animators
  • 3D artists and VFX creators
  • engineers and architects
  • developers and data scientists

The expanded hardware lineup spans configurations from six to 16 performance cores. Power limits break past traditional limits, or up to a sustained 170 watts to maintain peak clock speeds during overnight renders.

The range also makes the lineup scalable from compact desktop systems to full-scale tower workstation systems.

The AMD Ryzen PRO 9000 series also supports up to 256GB of memory to prevent system crashes. Enterprise system rollouts are expected to begin later this year.

GIGABYTE to focus on end-to-end AI infrastructure, deployment at COMPUTEX 2026

GIGABYTE has announced its showcase for COMPUTEX 2026, centering on the theme “Future Landing.”

Moving away from conceptual AI training models, the company’s exhibit next month will focus strictly on the immediate implementation, scaling, and real-world operation of production AI infrastructure.

According to the company, the exhibit addresses a major industry shift: the transition of AI from development phases into large-scale inference and physical operation.

Visitors can expect an interactive breakdown of the AI infrastructure lifecycle, structured into three distinct zones: Ready, Deployable, and Happening.

The “Ready” phase highlights fully validated systems simulated at GAIFA (GIGABYTE AI Factory Accelerator), the company’s dedicated facility in Taiwan.

To demonstrate rapid scalability, the “Deployable” section will feature modular, prefabricated infrastructure units that integrate compute, cooling, and power, all managed via the proprietary GIGABYTE Pod Manager (GPM) software.

Lastly, the “Happening” zone will showcase live, practical applications of physical AI and localized healthcare inference. Attendees can observe a live “real-to-sim-to-real” automation pipeline showing how AI models move from virtual simulation into active robotic systems.
