10th-generation iPad features a new splash of color

A new processor and camera

Apple is adding a splash of color to its original iPad lineup. During an event today, the company pulled the curtain off the next iPad generation. Like the new iPad Air series, the 10th-generation iPad features a redesign that fans of the iconic tablet can sink their teeth into.

Sporting a large 10.9-inch Retina Display, the new iPad makes for a great device to take on the go. The display features 2360×1640 resolution, almost 4-million pixels, 500 nits, and True Tone technology. Further, the device touts a new all-screen design, fully ridding itself of the Home button and (coincidentally) the headphone jack. Without a Home button, the iPad now features Touch ID right on the device’s top button.

Underneath, the 10th-generation iPad comes with the A14 Bionic chip. Though it’s not the A15 Bionic or the M series, the tablet promises a performance upgrade over the past generation and, according to Apple, the best-selling Android tablet today.

For the first time, Apple has also added the simple-but-tremendous quality-of-life change of moving the front-facing camera to the side. Instead of at the top of portrait orientation, it will be at the top for landscape orientation. Inside, it has a 12-megapixel sensor and 122-degree field of view. Meanwhile, the rear 12-megapixel camera can shoot 4K video and supports up to 240fps shooting.

In other news, the iPad will also come with Wi-Fi 6, 5G, and USB-C connectivity. Also, it will ship with iPadOS 16 right out of the gate. It will support only the 1st-generation Apple Pencil.

Coming in four dazzling colors (blue, pink, yellow, and silver), the 10th-generation iPad will start selling in stores starting October 26. It will start at US$ 449.
