Apple reveals first trailer of Brad Pitt’s F1 film

Simply titled “F1”

Published

on

if you follow Formula 1, you might have noticed a familiar face in the paddock for the past few years. Brad Pitt was constantly behind the scenes at a few races filming his secretive movie about the motorsport. Now, Pitt and his crew are ready to reveal more about the upcoming film, F1.

The title is, of course, new, and it’s as simple as it gets. Instead of a longer title like Fast and Furious or Gran Turismo, Pitt’s film is literally just called F1.

It’s also an Apple Original Film. The tie-up does slightly explain the funding for this movie. Based on the short trailer revealed this weekend during the Silverstone Grand Prix, it will feature actual teams and drivers of the ongoing seasons including current champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is also producing the film. It must cost a pretty penny.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot. Thankfully, we know a bit from a synopsis revealed in the past. Brad Pitt plays a retired racer getting back into the sport. Because of his age, Pitt is more focused on mentoring a much younger driver played by Damson Idris. Both will get behind the wheels of a fictional eleventh team breaking into the sport’s traditionally ten-team lineup.

F1 is set to premiere internationally on June 25, 2025. Despite being an Apple Original, it will make its way to theaters first, much like Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Netflix is adapting Catan into films and shows

Asmodee is involved as well.

While video game adaptations are booming, movies based on board games have had a less-than-stellar reputation. For example, 2012’s Battleship and the Jumanji reboots are straddling the edges of watchability. On the bright side, 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves slowly opened the possibility of a good movie based on the tabletop experience. Now, Catan and Netflix are taking advantage of the crack opened by Dungeons & Dragons.

In tabletop parlance, Catan is the so-called gateway drug for other board games. It’s the default option for players who want to try something new outside of the boilerplate Monopoly or Cards Against Humanity. The eventual hope is to open the doorway to more complex games in the future.

Today, Netflix announced that it will adapt Catan into a series of films and shows. The platform is partnering with the game’s publisher Asmodee for the projects.

As with all of Netflix’s announcements for future projects, this one doesn’t have a clear storyline yet. To be fair, the world of Catan has its own lore told through expansions and other media. It’s just not a story that’s easily digestible by simply playing the game. And, if someone can make a story — albeit a middling one — out of Battleship, then so can Catan.

Catan, as a media project, will be produced by Asmodee’s Darren Kyman, Catan Studio’s Pete Fenlon, and the creator’s sons, Benjamin and Guido Teuber.

A Minecraft Movie is getting a sequel

It’s scheduled to premiere in July 2027.

Published

A Minecraft Movie was decidedly not for me. However, there’s no denying how much the movie was so effective for younger fans and gamers who grew up with Minecraft. It’s one of the highest-grossing movies this year. Even if I didn’t personally like it, I still consider it a success for videogame adaptations. Now, recognizing the film’s success, Warner Bros. has signed off on a sequel to Jack Black’s blocky caper, as confirmed by Variety.

It’s a mystery where the sequel will take players. Not to spoil anything, but the original movie did end with virtually loose ends neatly tied into a bow. Then again, Minecraft is an endless well of content. Where one story ends, another can just as easily open up in its place. As a game, it’s a completely open sandbox where nothing is limited.

However, to establish continuity, the sequel is reportedly tapping the talents of director Jared Hess once again. Chris Galleta might also come back to write the screenplay.

Interestingly, Jack Black is not confirmed yet. But given how much of a star he was as Steve, it’s hard to imagine a sequel without his energy, so it’s likely that he’s coming back. On a more positive note, Jason Momoa, who co-starred as Garrett Garrison, is expected to co-produce the sequel.

Warner Bros. has currently scheduled the sequel’s premiere on July 23, 2027.
