FUJIFILM has made the GFX100RF digital camera available in the Philippines. The first digital camera under the GFX series with a built-in lens retails for PhP 319,990.

Also the lightest model under the series at 735 grams, the latest offering makes high-resolution photography more accessible to a wider range of users.

When compared to mirrorless cameras, the FUJIFIM GFX100RF is slightly larger, yet it is already small and compact enough for a medium format shooter.

Large format, high-resolution images in compact body

The GFX100RF features a high-speed GFX 102MP CMOS II image sensor which is 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor.

This has an evolved pixel structure and micro-lenses that enable wide dynamic range and low-noise photography. Users can also enjoy further improvements in peripheral image quality and AF accuracy.

The camera also features a newly-developed 35 F4 lens, which delivers a versatile angle of view (28mm in 35mm format). This way, it can deliver high performance in a wide range of situations, including landscapes, travel, snapshots, and portraits.

AI technology also improves the subject detection, high-speed, and high-precision AF functions on the camera. Moreover, the camera is also powered by the X-Processor 5 image processing engine.

Outstanding image quality

The GFX100RF achieves high resolution performance by suppressing spherical aberration and field curvature, among others, through a lens configuration of 10 elements in 8 groups. This includes two aspherical lenses.

FUJIFILM has a newly developed a nano-GI coating optimized for lenses with large curvature. This suppresses light reflection even in the lens’ peripheral areas. The result is high resolution performance for the GFX series.

The GFX series is also the first to feature a 4-stop ND filter built into the camera. This is useful for shooting at maximum aperture in bright environments and for shooting with slow shutter speeds.

The leaf shutter allows flash photography regardless of shutter speed, increasing the flexibility of shutter speeds and expanding the range of expression, even when shooting outdoors in daylight.

High performance

The FUJIFILM GFX100RF is also equipped with an AF prediction function and face/eye AF. These functions have evolved through the renewal of the algorithm.

They recognize a wide variety of subjects, such as animals, vehicles, birds, and airplanes through AI subject detection AF.

Moreover, the camera has high-magnification, high-definition EVF with a finder magnification of 0.84x and 5.76 million dots.

When using the viewfinder, users will notice that image flow and distortion have been suppressed. This way, subjects are highly visible.

The GFX100RF also supports 4K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video recording at 30 frames per second, as well as ISO 100 standard sensitivity setting.

In addition, the 13+stop “F-log2” provides rich tonal expression and high flexibility in post-production.

Lightweight, optimized design

To pull off an incredibly lightweight form factor, FUJIFILM reviewed the internal structure of the camera body. The top plate of the camera was made using a cutting process from aluminum.

Meanwhile, the lens ring, dials, bottom plate, and other details were all precision-machined from aluminum, enhancing the sense of metal texture when holding the camera in user’s hand and the sense of unity in the design.

Aspect ratio dial

Furthermore, the new camera is the first to feature an Aspect Ratio Dial. It allows users to switch between nine different shooting formats, derived from the photographic film and analog cameras that the brand has provided for many years.

The analog feel of switching and selecting the aspect ratio with the dial makes the shooting experience more enjoyable.

FUJIFILM has likewise included 3:4 and 17:6 aspect ratios. These match the subject and users’ photographic intentions on large-format shooting.

Digital tele-converter function

The company also added a “Digital tele-converter selector” to the front of the camera. The angle of view can be selected quickly and intuitively by operating the lever.

Users can switch the angle of view in three steps to 45mm (36mm in 35mm format), 63mm (50mm in 35mm format), and 80mm (63mm in 35mm format). This allows them to respond flexibly in a variety of shooting scenes.

More functions

The camera also as a new 3.15-inch 2.1MP 2-axis tilt LCD monitor. This makes it possible to take immersive photos.

A new user interface has been added that optimizes the placement of icons when shooting to match the 3:2 aspect ratio of the monitor.

The camera also has a new Surround View function that displays the area outside the shooting range as a semi-transparent or line pattern according to the aspect ratio.

While looking through the viewfinder, users can easily switch between these two modes using a lever, providing a shooting experience that is similar to an OVF, even though it is an EVF.

Osmo Pocket 4 makes a surprising appearance in public

Is the built-in light real?

Published

on

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 might be the most popular camera in recent history. The tiny action camera constantly sells out, thanks to creators and would-be vloggers. Because of the current generation’s popularity, everyone is looking forward to the next-generation Osmo Pocket 4. Though it’s still unannounced, the new camera has suddenly made a surprising appearance out in the wild.

The leak shockingly comes from an authorized DJI retailer in Kuala Lumpur. Supposedly, a customer entered the store with what they claimed was an Osmo Pocket 4. The store, DronesKaki, even shot a now-deleted video of the unannounced camera, rescued by New Camera.

Based solely on the short video, the Osmo Pocket 4 looks and feels very familiar to those who’ve already used the Pocket 3. The three-axis gimbal system still keeps shots in place for taking videos while on the move. The 2-inch rotating screen looks identical to the current one, especially because of intuitive settings and controls.

However, the biggest standout is the built-in LED light sitting atop the camera. Despite how convenient and easy to use it is, the Pocket 3 doesn’t exactly shine in low-light conditions, prompting users to always bring an external flash. If the leak is true, the Osmo Pocket 4 cures this issue to some extent. (Built-in flashes aren’t usually standout solutions, but they can work in a pinch.)

Still, take the leak with a grain of salt. Though the store could have deleted the video because of a request from DJI, they could have also deleted it because it’s not the Osmo Pocket 4. At this point, we won’t know, but current rumors speculate that the camera is launching soon.

on

Canon Philippines is capping the year strong with the release of the Canon EOS C50 in the market. The cinema camera is priced at PhP 189,998 for the body along with an XLR handle.

The Canon EOS C50 is designed for both filmmakers and creators who need mobility and professional-grade quality.

It has the same 3:2 Open Gate recording feature also on the EOS R6 Mark III, which gives users flexibility for post-production.

Creators can extract full 4K footage along with cropped 2K vertical or square versions from the same capture with the Simultaneous Crop Recording feature.

This is ideal for producing multi-platform content, like 16:9 landscape videos for YouTube then vertical shortform videos for social media.

Also, an added edge is the up to 7K 60p RAW recording capability on the C50, compared to just 7K 30p for the Mark III.

Filmmakers can also record at up to 4K 120fps should they need high frame rate captures. Recording in 4:2:2 10-bit is also available for rich color and flexibility in post-production.

In addition, the EOS C50 features dual CFexpress and SD card slots. 7K RAW can be saved to CFexpress while other formats can be saved to the SD card.

Different format, resolutions, and color sampling can be assigned for backup, distribution, or quicker edit-ready files.

Photo performance

For stills, users can take advantage of the 32MP CMOS sensor for capturing up to 40 shots per second (with electronic shutter).

The camera also supports pre-continuous shooting and AF performance improvements with its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II.

Enhancements include Auto setting, animals, vehicle priority, and eye AF, as well as the new left/right priority.

Moreover, the camera features Dual-Base ISO with Auto Selection, automatically switching between ISO 400 and ISO 3200 depending on the scene.

This ensures the highest signal-to-noise ratio while maintaining a wide dynamic range. Users can also manual select the ISO to match lighting conditions.
