Huawei faked the Nova 3i’s selfie ads

They were actually taken by a DSLR

Recently, Huawei has made major waves with their spectacular smartphones. Among others, one of their accolades highlight the brand’s amazing camera capabilities. With that in mind, you would think that Huawei doesn’t need to puff up its chest.

Unfortunately, the scene-stealing brand was recently caught creating misleading marketing materials.

Usually, smartphones advertise their cameras by posting actual shots taken from the device. As you might expect, these photos aren’t always true to life. From processing in post to using other devices, brands can embellish sample photos to suit their marketing. Often minimal, these adjustments usually go unnoticed.

However, Huawei’s ads shone brighter than the Northern Lights. To advertise the new Nova 3i, Huawei Egypt posted an ad that supposedly used the phone’s selfie shooter.

Unfortunately, the hired model accidentally posted Instagram photos from behind the scenes. Among others, the gallery included how they shot the ad. Instead of the advertised Nova 3i, a professional DSLR shot the photo in question.

The photos even show the male model extending his arm towards the camera, as if shooting a selfie.

Eventually, the model deleted the incriminating photos. Unfortunately for Huawei, as with most things on the internet today, keen-eyed observers already lifted the photos before they could disappear forever.

As mentioned above, embellishments are normal enough. However, brands don’t often allow themselves to get caught. More surprisingly, Huawei doesn’t need the camera magic. In fact, the new Huawei Nova 3i wowed in the midrange market.

If anything, the evidence warns users to naturally distrust ads and rely on the phone’s actual performance.

UPDATE (8/20/2018): Huawei has since posted that the ad includes a disclaimer that states the following:

“The mobile photos and the content is made for illustration only.

There might be a difference in the product visuals and sizes than reality, as well as the ad/film content.”

Colorful has announced its first ever Mini PC: The Colorful CMNH01-12450. This new offering gives users a solution for their daily productivity and entertainment needs, all in a compact and small PC chassis.

Space-saving computing

The Colorful Mini PC is a space saver. It is basically just five inches by five inches large, with a thickness of above two inches, conveniently fitting setups with limited spaces. It has a fast 2.5 GbE LAN port and an assortment of connectivity ports for other peripherals and devices.

It also has two USB2.0, two USB 3.2 Gen2, and one USB Type-C ports, as well as one DisplayPort and one 3.5mm audio jack. Furthermore, it supports PCIe Gen 4 SSDs, up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, and an M.2 slot for Wi-Fi modules.

Powerful, efficient

Performance wise, Colorful’s compact PC houses a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 12450H processor with eight cores and 16 threads. The PC can deliver a maximum boost clock of 4.4GHz. The chassis also has a silent turbo fan underneath for cooling. As for its GPU, the mini PC has Intel Iris Xe graphics. Moreover, it will run on Windows 11 Home.

Colorful looks to have different configurations for the product depending on the region. Pricing and availability will be announced later.

ZTE has announced the availability of the nubia Neo 2 5G in the Philippines. The successor to the nubia Neo budget gaming smartphone, the second iteration is armed with an upgraded gaming control experience for Filipino gamers to enjoy.

The nubia Neo 2 5G retains the distinct Bionic Mecha with “Hero Eye” design from its predecessor. It is available in Storm Gray, Sunfire Yellow, and Frost Silver for PhP 9,999.
