Realme sold 10 million smartphones in just four months
It now has 35 million users worldwide
With the rest of the world reeling from the pandemic, global smartphone sales are down with most manufacturers registering a slow down in sales. That’s not the case for Realme which sold 10 million smartphones to start the year.
Growth during the pandemic
From January to April 2020, Realme sold 10 million smartphones, bringing its total worldwide users to 35 million. As such, it was able to retain its 157% year-on-year shipment growth. It also cemented Realme’s position as the seventh top global smartphone brands globally.
The company’s growth during Q1 2020 is commendable given that it was only one of the two smartphone manufacturers that achieved growth during that period. The company’s aggressive push and pricing strategy contributed to this growth even as industry sales were down for the quarter.
Strengthening its online presence and catering to the youth made Realme a popular choice in key areas such as China, Europe, India, South and Southeast Asia, Russia, and Africa. In most countries, it grabbed one of the top spots for the most popular smartphone brand. For example, in the Philippines, the company ranks fourth with an annual growth of 709%.
Expanding to other segments
For the rest of 2020, Realme will continue offering bang-for-the-buck devices that appeal to younger demographics. The newly-launched Realme 6 builds upon the success of Realme’s strategy. The company is also expanding its smart devices and wearables portfolio. It recently launched the Realme Buds Air and Realme Band that offer competitive specs at a bargain price.
All in all, 2020 is shaping up to be a great year for Realme even with the difficult situation that the world is facing now.
The curtains have finally been lifted. Though it took a while compared to previous years, Samsung has revealed when the year’s first Galaxy Unpacked will happen. And yes, as expected, the event will see the debut of the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
Previously, rumors have suggested that Samsung is holding its next Galaxy Unpacked at a later date. Traditionally, Samsung holds the annual event towards the tail end of January. Since we’re already in February, it’s abundantly clear that the rumors were right. Now, it’s confirmed.
Samsung has officially released invites for the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked. The event is scheduled for February 25.
As expected, Samsung is bringing its next flagship, the Galaxy S26 series to the event. The brand will also update Galaxy AI for the flagship series.
As early as last year, reports have already hinted at improvements coming to the series. Right now, the biggest headline is how the upcoming Exynos 2600, which will debut with the Galaxy S26 series, is reportedly at par with Apple’s A19 Pro.
In other news, the series will supposedly retire the Plus model, which would otherwise have been the Galaxy S26+. The middle child of a flagship series is often the experimental one. Besides Samsung, Apple will reportedly sunset the iPhone Air, its own version of the middle child.
Right now, all we can do is speculate on the upcoming series. Until its arrival soon, that is. For now, stay tuned for more coverage of the series launch from GadgetMatch.

Sony teams up with 13 companies for sustainable global supply chain
Sustainability through introduction of renewable plastics
Sony, along with several companies, have established the world’s first global supply chain for the production of renewable plastics that can be used in Sony’s high-performance audiovisual products.
The supply chain consists of 14 companies across five countries and regions. The various plastic materials manufacture through this supply are slated for use in Sony’s products that will launch worldwide.
High-performance products such as audiovisual equipment involve a wide variety of plastics. The result is a complex supply chain that makes it difficult to visualize and manage the entire flow.
Additionally, plastic components that require high performance in terms of flame resistance and optical properties cannot be fully replaced with plastics from material recycling.
To address these challenges, these 14 companies have collaborated to visualize the existing supply chain for Sony’s products:
- Sony Corporation
- Mitsubishi Corporation
- ADEKA CORPORATION
- CHIMEI Corporation
- ENEOS Corporation
- Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation
- Hanwha Impact Corporation
- Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.
- Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.
- Neste Corporation
- Qingdao Haier New Material Development Co.
- Ltd., SK Geo Centric Co., Ltd.
- Toray Industries, Inc.
- Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc.
Sustainability through renewable plastics
The new supply chain created will enable the production of multiple types of renewable plastics from biomass resources with a mass balance approach.
This allows Sony to proactively source raw materials for its products with quality, as well as properties equivalent to virgin fossil-based plastics.
Defining the supply chain also helps the companies track and document GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions data in a verifiable way.
This allows participating companies to leverage the data to advance efforts to reduce their carbon footprint going forward.
Sony’s initiative with a wide range of global partners is part of the “Creating NEW from reNEWable materials” jointly launched by the electronics giant and Mitsubishi.
It aims to achieve zero usage of virgin fossil-based plastics through the introduction of renewable plastics.
