Google will soon use AI to help you look for the cheapest flights

Currently in testing

Published

Waiting for seat sales and travel fairs is the worst. Sometimes, you just need a quick getaway to escape an impending burnout, but travel prices don’t always cooperate. Recognizing how terrible it is to book travel plans, Google is testing a new AI-powered feature that will automatically give future travelers the cheapest prices for their trips.

Of course, the travel-savvy user already knows that Google Flights exist. The search engine’s more specialized feature allows users to search for the cheapest flights by simply inputting when and where they plan to travel. To any prospective traveler who wants to DIY their entire trip, Google Flights is a must-use.

So, with that said, what’s so different about Google’s latest development? Now, rather than inputting the planned dates for the trip, users only need to put in a language prompt, just as if they’re talking to ChatGPT or Gemini. Google will then use its AI to comb through the best deals available to save users money on their planned trip.

It’s not a tool for just savers, too. Google says that it also plans to include an option to filter out economy seats. If you plan to travel in style, Google can make that happen.

Called Flight Deals (and nestled within Google Flights), the feature is currently in early testing for users in the United States, Canada, and India. The company will then roll out the feature for more countries after collating feedback from testers.

Apple Watch brings back recalled blood oxygen sensor

First recalled in 2023 because of a patent dispute

Published

on

In late 2023, Apple faced an unprecedented dilemma. Because the Apple Watch uses a blood oxygen sensor patented by someone else, the company was forced to recall most of its smartwatches in the United States. Today, Apple has resolved the issue and has started rolling out the feature once again to users.

Previously, Masimo, the opposing company, claimed that the Apple Watch uses a light-based blood oxygen sensor that it had first patented. As such, Apple was illegally using the technology inside the watch, hence the recall. The keyword here is “inside”.

Apple has announced a fix for the issue. Rather than redesigning the entire smartwatch, the company has an innovative solution. The sensor now lies in the paired iPhone, instead of the Apple Watch. By doing so, Apple circumvents the lawsuit’s issue.

The newly redesigned feature will ship out via the iPhone’s iOS 18.6.1 update and the Watch’s watchOS 11.6.1 update. “Following this update, sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone, and results can be viewed in the Respiratory section of the Health app,” Apple said.

The update will come to the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2. It will have no effect on previous watches with the blood oxygen sensor already built in. Likewise, smartwatches purchased outside of the United States are not affected.

Google leaks the Pixel 10 Pro Fold before next week’s launch

Our first look

Published

on

One of these days, Google will finally learn how to keep its upcoming smartphones a secret before their official launch. Today, however, is not that day. Merely a week before its planned event, Google has revealed our first official look at the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Google’s inability to keep its flagships from leaking ahead of time has been notorious for several years now. Before the company can pull the curtains from the new Pixels, someone — sometimes, Google itself — leaks the phones ahead of time. Though the leaks are great for conversation, their early appearances often cheapen the impact of the official reveal. But, alas, that’s how Google rolls nowadays.

This year, Google is doing the same. Previously, the company already revealed a silhouetted glimpse of the Pixel 10 series. Today, the leaky train keeps rolling with a similarly silhouetted first look at the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

To be fair, the duo of silhouettes don’t reveal much about the upcoming foldable, other than how it looks. The thirty-second teaser reveals the sizable rear camera island, seemingly with two tiers of cameras. It also shows a front-facing punch-hole camera nestled on the top-right corner. Other than that, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold looks, unsurprisingly, like a top-shelf foldable.

Now, if you’re excited to learn more about the new foldable, the wait is barely anything at this point. Google is scheduled to reveal its next lineup of flagships and foldables on August 20.
