This is the first Snapdragon powered ThinkPad

Called the ThinkPad X13s

Published

on

The ThinkPad X13s is the world’s first laptop powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform. It has 5G and promises up to 26 to 28 hours of battery life. This laptop also flexes Lenovo’s sustainability efforts being made from 90 percent recycled magnesium. Even the packaging is made with 100 percent recycled materials.

For the truly mobile

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is built for the truly mobile worker. For starters, it’s pretty darn light, weighing at just 1.06kg. It also supports WiFI 6E for stable connection where available. However, should there be no WiFi connections on site, the laptop also supports both mmWave and sub6 Wireless WAN 5G. This ensures you stay connected wherever you go.

Video calling has also been taken into account. The X13s has a communications bar with a 5-megapixel camera with AI-based auto framing plus Infrared (IR) camera option and standard triple-array microphones providing intelligent noise suppression during conference calls.

True all-day battery

Powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform, the ThinkPad X13s promises an unheard of battery efficiency and performance despite being fan-less.

It delivers processing speeds with system-level performance boosts of up to 57 percent and handles multi-tasking up to 85 percent faster. Other than the processor, its 13.3-inch, 16:10 display (with touch or EyeSafe low blue light options) is also low power contributing to the promised true all-day battery life of up to 28 hours.

Made for business

Being a business-oriented laptop, the X13s has features that will make your company’s IT staff happy. It is equipped with advanced hardware and software threat protection through ThinkShield end-to-end security platform. Additionally, Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 integrates layered secure boot and Microsoft Pluton architecture implemented on the Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit for chip-to-cloud protection of user identity, data and applications on Windows 11 PCs that meet the Secured-core PC standard.

Also, Lenovo Services can assist in end-to-end lifecycle needs of the transformation to optimized Modern IT through planning, configuration, deployment, management, support and disposal of assets.

Lenovo also collaborates with ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) for native support on business-critical applications. This includes apps such as Microsoft 365, Zoom, Sophos and many more.

Price and availability

The ThinkPad X13s will be available starting May 2022, with a starting price of US$ 1099.

In the US, the ThinkPad X13s will be available on AT&T, and on Verizon later in 2022. More specific
availability and pricing will be shared later.

There’s been much ado about the NVIDIA RTX Spark. By now, you’ve probably heard a lot about the upcoming reinvention of PCs. But, as a regular consumer, it’s hard to visualize just how this revolution looks like. Thankfully, in NVIDIA’s demo suites, a few manufacturers got to showcase their take on an RTX Spark notebook. And all of them are coming out in the fall.

Unfortunately, none of these brands could share comprehensive details about their laptops beyond a promise for raw power. All of these models aren’t the final version yet.

However, just from what we can tell, these notebooks do feel different from the standard fare of laptops today. For one, they are deceptively heavier. Though all of the OEMs promise a much thinner profile, they’re either packing a lot of tech inside or are using denser materials for their chassis. But again, these are engineering units, so who knows how heavy these things will actually be?

Secondly, based on NVIDIA’s demos, they can do a lot of heavy lifting. NVIDIA says that these superchips are meant for developers and creators, but gamers will also find joy in their performance. DLSS 4.5, in particular, feels like a true revolution in terms of graphics.

Thankfully, fall isn’t too far away. If you can wait, the next evolution of PCs is just around the corner.
