Sony might buy the company behind Elden Ring
Also comes with ties to the anime industry
Though the developer’s games, such as Elden Ring, are available on multiple platforms, FromSoftware resonates the most with PlayStation. Two of its games, Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls, are currently exclusive to the platform. Now, Sony is reportedly fulfilling its destiny as the home for FromSoftware.
According to Reuters, Sony is currently in talks to acquire Kadokawa. A Japanese giant, Kadokawa owns FromSoftware. While Sony already owns a 14 percent stake in the latter, acquiring the former will give the company even more control over the Elden Ring developer. The talks are ongoing, but a resolution should happen in the coming weeks.
Gamers will recognize FromSoftware as the brains behind the award-winning Elden Ring and its universally lauded expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. In the past, the studio also popularized the genre of ultra-difficult games, headlined by the iconic Dark Souls franchise. The studio’s works are getting recognition once again for the annual Game Awards in December, as Shadow of the Erdtree earned a nomination for the Game of the Year award.
Though FromSoftware is the biggest name in this potential acquisition, it isn’t the only studio owned by Kadokawa. The company also owns several productions in the anime industry, including Oshi no Ko and Delicious in Dungeon. Acquiring Kadokawa could expand Sony’s reach in the animation industry, a segment that the latter already has strong ties to. Earlier this year, Sony merged Funimation with Crunchyroll, marking a significant change in the anime world.

Street Fighter 6 adds first Filipino fighter Yasmine to its roster
Eskrima fighter joins battle
Street Fighter 6 has officially welcomed Yasmine, making history as the first Filipino martial artist to join the franchise’s playable roster. The new character is now available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the game’s Year 4 content.
Yasmine practices Eskrima, having learned the Filipino martial art alongside her older brother under their grandfather’s guidance. She wields Karambit knives in battle and embarks on a journey to find her missing brother.
Players can access Yasmine by purchasing the Year 4 Character Pass or Year 4 Ultimate Pass. Her default outfit features traditional Eskrima-inspired combat attire, while a school uniform serves as her second costume. In combat, she specializes in fast, aggressive attacks that build toward an enhanced Bayani Mode.
Yasmine is the first of four Year 4 fighters, followed by Arjun, Tifa from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, and Bosch. Her release also arrives alongside battle balance adjustments affecting the entire roster.
