How Singapore Airlines uses iPad to make flights safer

Custom-made apps help pilots focus on what matters

There are a number of factors to consider when booking flights, but safety should always be on everyone’s priority. That is why award-winning carrier Singapore Airlines is pioneering development of apps for iPad that enhance service and operational performance of its staff.

On a recent trip to Singapore, Apple CEO Tim Cook himself saw firsthand how iPad transformed the cockpit. Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong and Captain Raj Kumar showed Cook how apps developed for iPadOS helps pilots focus on safety.

Developed with Apple and IBM, FlyNow provides pilots with personalized content based on pilot preferences and collaboration tools. This is made possible by analytics including weather conditions, fuel load, aircraft type, and route.

With FlyNow for iPad, pilots have one place to view all relevant flight information. They receive real-time push notifications on flight plan updates and collaborate with the crew even before they reach the airport.

Singapore Airlines is the first and only airline currently using FlyNow.

Roster provides pilots with an overview of all roster-related information, relevant documents and qualification requirements. The app uses powerful analytics to surface potential issues and recommend next steps.

It prioritizes alerts and notifications to help pilots keep pace with changes. Its collaboration tools facilitate connections between pilots and co-pilots assigned to the same mission.

Singapore Airlines is the first to use Roster and the only airline to use it on iPad. The app was made in collaboration with developers from IBM.

Flying made even more convenient

Singapore Airlines is consistently recognized as one of the best airlines in the world for its products and services. With Kristal, flying becomes even more convenient for customers.

Kristal is able to scan personal barcodes for an all-in-one check-in experience and communicate up-to-date flight information. It can also identify individual profiles of passengers including dietary preferences. It also allows for real-time communication with the lounge staff.

Singapore Airlines is the only carrier to use an app for lounge entry. It was custom built with the airline’s passenger relations officers, Apple, and Tigerspike.

Pulse Elevate

PlayStation is expanding its audio lineup with the Pulse Elevate wireless speakers, its first wireless speakers developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The speakers will launch in Southeast Asia starting November 12, 2026, with pre-orders opening September 2.

The Pulse Elevate speakers are designed for desktop gaming on PS5, PC, and Mac, while also supporting portable use with the PlayStation Portal remote player and smartphones. They combine planar magnetic drivers, built-in woofers, and PlayStation Link wireless connectivity for low-latency, lossless audio.

Each speaker uses a studio-inspired planar magnetic driver to deliver sound across the audible spectrum. Built-in woofers add richer bass, while the speakers can enhance positional audio in PS5 games that support Tempest 3D AudioTech.

The right speaker also has a built-in microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. This allows users to handle voice chat without wearing a headset while helping filter out unwanted background noise.

Designed for gaming and beyond

Pulse Elevate uses PlayStation Link for ultra-low-latency wireless audio with compatible devices, including the PS5, PC, Mac, and PlayStation Portal. The speakers also support Bluetooth, allowing users to listen to audio from a Bluetooth device while using PlayStation Link for another connected device.

A PlayStation Link USB adapter is included and works with USB-C ports. The speakers also feature built-in rechargeable batteries, letting users take them on the go. Charging docks are included for returning to a desktop setup.

Users can adjust the speakers’ volume directly and position them horizontally or vertically. PS5 and PC users can also customize EQ, sidetone, volume, and microphone mute settings through system menus.

Pulse Elevate will be available in Midnight Black and White.

REDMI Note 17 Series focuses on long-term reliability

Built for years of use

Xiaomi is putting long-term reliability at the center of the upcoming REDMI Note 17 Series.

In a Singapore media release dated August 17, 2026, Xiaomi outlined its “Built for Years” approach for the new series. The company says the strategy focuses on battery longevity, durability, security updates, and sustained performance as people keep their smartphones for longer.

The REDMI Note Series has shipped more than 500 million units worldwide. Xiaomi says the lineup has evolved around changing user needs, from larger displays and bigger batteries to improved durability and water resistance.

Six years of “Built for Years”

The REDMI Note 17 Series will follow a six-year “Built for Years” commitment covering battery longevity, security patch updates, and sustained smoothness. Xiaomi notes that the specific coverage will vary depending on the model and market.

The company is also introducing the first Pro Max model in the REDMI Note lineup. Xiaomi says the model will bring “max design, max quality, and max experience” to the series.

Durability will also play a major role. Xiaomi says the REDMI Note 17 Series has received TÜV SÜD certifications covering battery performance, drop resistance, and water resistance. The tests aim to reflect real-world use rather than laboratory performance alone.

Bigger battery, stronger durability

The series will feature Xiaomi’s largest-ever smartphone battery. It uses silicon-carbon technology and is designed to balance daily endurance, long-term cycle life, safety, and fast charging.

Xiaomi rates the battery for 1,600 charging cycles while retaining more than 80 percent capacity. The company says this is designed to support six years of reliable performance under demanding daily use.

The phones are also designed to better handle everyday accidents. Xiaomi says they use 17 custom waterproof components and undergo 10 airtightness tests. The devices are certified for 3-meter drop resistance as well.

Xiaomi says this focus is particularly relevant to mid-range smartphones. As consumers hold onto their devices for longer, the company believes longevity is becoming just as important as performance, cameras, and design.
