After a fantastic finalé, popular K-drama Crash Landing on You got me crashing down with emotions. Apart from the giggles, tears, and laughter, the beloved TV series brought unexpected nuggets of wisdom. Lo and behold, here are lessons from the hit show that everyone should remember.

Life without social media is great

When Yoon-Seri crash-landed into North Korea, she was totally bewildered. While the show is a fictitious attempt to portray the country, we all know from the books they’re totally isolated from the rest of the world.

Some of the basic necessities we enjoy are scarce, and they don’t have social media. But even though none of them enjoy these platforms we use to communicate, you can see that people have genuine interactions with each other.

When we’re hung up on social media, we rarely look around our surroundings. It’s time to appreciate the little things we have. For instance, the way the sunlight fills an entire room with warmth, or how the cold breeze in the morning hugs us while we sip hot coffee.

Cherish a disconnected life, connect with more people

What I love about Crash Landing on You is the banter between its characters. There may be no technology involved (and even if there was in Seoul), a lot of them stay connected with each other — not with the internet.

There were no distractions when they eat their meals; they share stories, burst into waves of laughter, and enjoy time with each other. With technology getting in the way we connect with our loved ones, maybe it’s time to bond the way the characters did in Crash Landing on You — disconnected online, but with a genuine connection offline.

Technology really made our lives easier

When Yoon Se-Ri and Ri Jeong Hyeok’s friends were sent to Seoul to bring back their captain, they’re filled with amazement. Even after going back, they missed how life was more convenient in Seoul. Back there, they didn’t have to wait for electricity to come back, and water flows freely.

Presently, homes are now protected with a security pass — which you can unlock with a code or your biometrics. You can turn off the lights when you clap your hands, too. Coffee machines are also here to serve us coffee, without grinding beans for god-knows-how-long.

Seeing the difference in the show’s portrayal of North and South Korea, you’d be grateful that we live in a world where technology is welcome and embraced.

We all need a strong support system

To survive in this world, we all need a strong support system. Your friends are important in navigating your life — connected or not. Crash Landing on You taught us that our friends are here and life’s easier when you have people around you. From Ri Jeong Hyeok’s men to Ajummas cheering Yoon Se-Ri, the right people really do bring the best in us.

There may be times when life seems unfair and struggles can be overbearing, but when you have people to lean on, you can survive anything.

Don’t be afraid to love again

In an age where romance and dating are complicated, people easily shy away from love altogether. I mean, it’s better to guard yourself up and not get hurt, right? But if we do that, we’re missing the spark and joy of life. If you’re afraid of the pain, remember that getting hurt is one of the risks of love.

Yoon Se-Ri and Ri Jeong Hyeok taught us the right person is always worth the risk. The amount of love we’re getting back will take away all the tears we shed. So if you feel like giving up on love, don’t. The universe is pulling all the strings for you. Magic is about to happen, just hang in there.

Lastly, live your life to the fullest. Trust that God, the universe, and other heavenly beings are working in your favor. After all, they’re true. It wasn’t a coincidence I watched Crash Landing on You. It was destiny. I was meant to learn from these lessons and share them with you.
