It’s simply an accessory that looks and feels gorgeous and lasts enough to accompany your iPhone before your next upgrade.

Color: Bora Purple

2021 was all about the different shades of Green, and 2022 is all about all shades of Purple. With Samsung taking on the posh color as part of its signature shade across all its smartphones and other bespoke devices, we found ourselves falling in love with Bora Purple.

It’s adorable, and majestic, and offers the right amount of sophistication that you can be proud to wear.

CES 2024

Best of CES 2024

AI and then some

Published

on

It’s fitting that CES 2024 is the first big tech event. If it’s anything to go by, it certainly sets the tone for what’s to come for the rest of the year. That is, AI. Lots of AI. But there were other stuff too. Some cool, some curious, and others almost downright ridiculous. Here’s our picks for the Best of CES 2024.

Clicks (iPhone keyboard)

Clicks

Some people really just want buttons. For the physical and tactile keys enthusiast, Clicks Technology comes out with Clicks.

Clicks is a hard case with a keyboard for your iPhone. It solves an issue of virtual keyboards today. Having an external keyboard will prevent virtual keyboards from blocking content on your screen.

ASUS Zenbook DUO (2024)

The ASUS Zenbook DUO line has always been about innovating the use of an additional screen to the traditional laptop set-up. They take things a bit further with the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2024).

It is the world’s first ultraportable laptop with two 14-inch 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen displays. As with the previous models in the series, the new ZenBook Duo will attach both screens together. Oh and those displays are Dolby Vision-certified ASUS Lumina OLED.

Rather than just using two screens, the package will also come with a detachable keyboard and a kickstand.

ROG Phone 8

ROG has consistently delivered on the gaming and performance part. However, a few other attributes lagged behind. That’s what they hope to address with the ROG Phone 8.

The ROG Phone 8 promises to have the best camera performance from an ROG Phone thus far. The other notable additions are an IP68-rating (an ROG Phone first), and wireless charging. And then of course, there are the usual annual performance upgrades.

MSI Claw

MSI Claw A1M

MSI has entered the handheld gaming PC ring with the MSI Claw A1M, unveiled at CES 2024.

Unlike most handheld gaming PCs out right now, the MSI Claw A1M will have Intel inside. It’s also equipped with ARC graphics featuring up to 8 Xe cores and advanced XeSS technology.

Looks-wise, the MSI Claw more closely resembles the ROG Ally than other handhelds from major laptop gaming brands. The thumb sticks with RGB, directional pad, and face buttons are laid out identically. This one, though, comes in black

LG Signature OLED T

Transparent AND Wireless. LG Electronics just keeps on trying new things. Their latest venture has resulted in the LG Signature OLED T — a transparent display that’s also wireless.

The technological marvel combines a transparent 4K OLED screen with LG’s wireless video and audio transmission technology to make a never-before-seen screen experience possible.

The OLED T changes the way users decorate their homes with a practically invisible screen when turned off. This allows homeowners to blend the TV seamlessly into their environments, whether using it as a divider or propping it against the window view.

LG CineBeam Qube T

LG CineBeam Qube

A classic-looking art piece with modern capabilities. That’s the LG CineBeam Qube T. This compact and lightweight new offering from LG can showcase 4K UHD content at up to 120 inches.

The LG CineBeam Qube comes equipped with an RGB laser light source and LG’s cutting-edge image refining technologies so pictures come out accurate and with ample sharpness, contrast, colors, and blacks.

LG Smart Home AI Agent & Samsung Ballie

LG Electronics Smart Home AI agent

How do you feel about tiny AI robots roaming around your home assisting you with stuff? That seems to be the general idea behind the LG Smart Home AI Agent and Samsung Ballie.

Both are packaged like cute tiny companions around the house. LG envisions the Smart Home AI Agent as your partner for a zero labor future. It features robotic, AI and multi-modal technologies that enable it to move, learn, comprehend, and engage in complex conversations.

Samsung’s Ballie aims to function in a similar manner. They even came out with a video demonstrating what life is like with Ballie helping you manage your home even while you’re outside it.

We’re getting ridiculously close to sci-fi movies from 2-3 decades ago and it’s both frightening and exciting at the same time.

LG Bon Voyage

Glamping but make it techie. It’s an LG Labs concept that lets you take your Smart Home on the road. It’s many of LG’s home innovations packed in a trailer-like vehicle. This thing is equipped with an LG Styler, some of their kitchen tech, plenty of smart screens, and what have you.

It’s just a concept for now but the idea of going on a road-trip using a LG Smart home tech-infused vehicle is certainly appealing.

LG DUOBO

Another one from LG Labs, the LG DUOBO is for coffee lovers. Put simply, it’s the first capsule coffee machine that extracts and blends two coffee capsules simultaneously. With it, you can mix and match coffee flavors to your liking.

Samsung 3D Monitor

Remember ASUS’ 3D laptop? Well, Samsung now has a 3D monitor. And no, you don’t need glasses.

Instead of just a generalized way to turn 2D images into 3D, the monitor has two cameras that automatically detect the best settings to make the effect pop.

Samsung does not have any concrete plans to release the device yet. The company only held a limited demonstration of the technology featuring last year’s iconic Souls-like game, Lies of P.

Samsung Music Frame

Samsung is expanding The Frame. From a TV-room-art-centerpiece, to one that’s smaller and music-focused. The Samsung Music Frame is everything you know about The Frame but strictly for sound.

It camouflages as an art piece and can be hung wherever you please, but it uses Samsung’s Q-Symphony technology which means you can pair it with any Samsung device you have so you can play sound on it.

It works via Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth and has built-in tweeters, woofers, and midrange drivers.

realme 12 Pro

realme 12 Pro

As the company’s first flagship level under the new “Make it real” slogan, it feels like the realme 12 Pro has a lot riding on it. Thankfully, it has the specs and features to back it up.

The realme 12 Pro series will have a periscope telephoto camera with a one-half inch OV64B sensor. It is twice as large as the sensor on the iPhone 15 Pro.

The realme 12 Pro’s exterior will also stand out from the rest of the competition. The company has tapped luxury watch design master Ollivier Savéo to create the design for the phones.

Afeela, PS5 DualSense

Afeela, PS5 DualSense

This was just a straight-up CES stage gimmick but it was pretty cool, nevertheless. Afeela president and COO Izumi Kawanishi showcased a prototype of their smart car, driving it to the stage using a PS5 DualSense controller.

The Sony Afeela won’t be rolling out anytime soon. There have been no details discussed yet, including pricing and reservation. But you can control it with a DualSense yourself on Gran Turismo 7.

XGIMI Horizon Max

Want IMAX at home? The XGIMI Horizon Max makes it possible. It’s a long-throw projector touting incredible numbers: 3,100 lumens of brightness and a 2000:1 contrast ratio.

It uses Dual Light 2.0. This means it’s using two light sources for the projection. More importantly is that it’s using ISA 5.0. ISA stands for Intelligent Screen Adaptation which lets the projector interact with your projection surface and automatically adjust itself to produce the best image quality.

XGIMI Aladdin

Fancy a whole new world? What about one where your ceiling light is also a projector? That’s what the XGIMI Aladdin is.

It lights up the room but can also operate dimly while you use its Android TV-powered projection prowess to enjoy your favorite shows and movies.

Unbelievable sight. Indescribable feeling.

TCL mini LED TV

How big is big enough? TCL said at CES 2024 that size matters flexing a 115-inch mini LED TV. The massive size comes with massive numbers too. That’s 5,000 nits peak brightness and 20,000 local dimming zones. It’s big. It’s bright. And it’s more than just alright.

UGREEN NAS

What’s better than a regular NAS (Network Attached Storage)? Well, one that’s infused with what will likely be the tech buzzword of 2024 – A.I.

Their flagship product is the NASync DX480T Plus. Its SSD storage spaces allow for up to 16TB of fast, all-flash storage space. An expandable RAM drive provides up to 32GB of memory for high-speed processing, and powering the homemade Ugreen OS Pro(UGOS Pro) is Intel’s very own 12th gen Core i5 10 Core processor.

Most importantly, it features capabilities like picture recognition and classification as well as searching pictures by text. This should make organizing your files and footage an easier task.

2023 GadgetMatch Approved Smartphones

2023 smartphones that deserve the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval

Published

on

It’s the time of the year again!

ICYMI, we haven’t reviewed all smartphones released this year. Despite that, there are still 23 smartphones from 2023 (not intentional, btw) that were able to make the cut and bagged GadgetMatch’s very own Seal of Approval.

Reviewed by different members of the team with varying preferences and personalities, smartphones in this list weren’t limited to the premium line as it also tackles the budget and midrange segment, as well as foldables and flippables.

This list is in descending order from most recently published.

OPPO Find N3 / OnePlus Open

OPPO Find N3

“Some things are meant to be, but perhaps they aren’t meant to last. That’s how I view my time with the OPPO Find N3 – fleeting but filled to the brim with moments that will stick with me. It happened. It was great. But then, it was over.

I’ll likely find myself staring into empty space just reliving all of it every now and then. If I’d be given a chance to experience it all over again, I would say yes in a heartbeat.”Rodneil

“Well the reviews are in, and overwhelmingly the consensus is clear — the OnePlus Open is the best foldable in the market today.

And after one month of having this phone in my pocket and in my bag, I can wholeheartedly say that I agree. It deserves the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval.” — Michael Josh

OPPO Find N3 Flip

“A flip smartphone like the Find N3 Flip has a certain allure that you can only imagine. It’s time to flip your life around and open yourself to an array of experiences. There’s something special about it, and I can’t help but gush over a smartphone worthy of being in my pocket.” MJ

vivo V29 5G

vivo V29 5G

“Overall, the vivo V29 5G is a great gadget for those who love content creation, and those with the habit of using multiple apps in a single time. It’s a great choice as well for people who loves using their phone as accessory to match their OOTD.” Martynne

Apple iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max

“Seriously, there is a lot to love with the new iPhone 15 series. That new Titanium build is sexy — it’s light and it’s definitely what I’ve been waiting for. That Action Button I believe is going to be a game-changer — and soon they’re opening it up to third-party app developers also. That USB-C port is going to open it up to a whole bunch of possibilities as well as compatibility.

And that new camera has set the bar for everybody else to beat. Plus, if you’re a Pro user, if you’re a content creator, a professional video creator, then you’re definitely going to want to leverage all of its new features as well. There’s no beating around the bush, the iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max is the best smartphone that you can get today.” — Michael Josh

Xiaomi 13T Pro

Xiaomi 13T Pro

“The main draw of the Xiaomi 13T Pro, without a doubt, is how it lets you experience a Leica camera without it costing you an arm and a leg.

Elsewhere, the Xiaomi 13T Pro is also a winner. The silky smooth display catches your attention immediately, and its general size and overall build makes you feel secure. You just have this peace of mind that what you’re holding is made with care and won’t break easily. There’s also something about it that’s hard to describe or quantify. You just know, you’re using a device that’s better than most.” Rodneil

OPPO A98 5G

“The OPPO A98 5G has certainly made a mark in the midrange smartphone segment. With its eye-catching design, impressive display, and powerful battery life, it offers a well-rounded experience for a lot of users.

The device’s ability to deliver smooth performance and handle gaming well are really worth considering. And with its competitive pricing, I can say that the OPPO A98 5G is a strong contender in its category, earning an A+ for its overall offering and total upgrade from its predecessor.” Tom

realme 11 Pro+ 5G

“It certainly has one of the best smartphones in its bracket. If dazzling cameras, design, and really quick charging are all you’re up for, the realme 11 Pro+ 5G is definitely your GadgetMatch. Having a flagship-like experience trumps all the imperfections and flaws you’ll encounter with this smartphone, especially the lack of IP rating.” MJ

Nothing Phone (2)

“On its second iteration, has managed to build something special. A well-priced phone that delivers on all the right things.

Nothing says that their goal is to build something “fun”. And while I’m not sure if this phone is “fun” enough, I think it’s a great phone that deserves the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval” — Michael Josh

motorola razr+

“At just under a $1000, which is a fair price for a foldable, I definitely consider the motorola razr+.” — Michael Josh

TECNO Camon 20 Pro

“The TECNO Camon 20 Pro retails for PhP 9,999. A 5G version sells for PhP 12,999. Based on those prices, the series is a great example of getting a bit more than what you pay for. It’s not the best smartphone in the market in its price range.

However, if you’re shopping for a decent daily driver with a limited budget, the Camon 20 Pro deserves some attention.” Luigi

ROG Phone 7 Ultimate

“If your smartphone priorities align with that of the ROG Phone, then it is an excellent product. It’s certainly a mobile gamer’s GadgetMatch. Is it newsworthy? In the general sense, not really. Not anymore. But is it a goddamn good product? Hell yeah it is. One that deserves the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval.” Rodneil

Xiaomi 13 Pro

“The Xiaomi 13 Pro is a great smartphone meant for photographers, casual shooters, and aspirers alike. It’s a smartphone that isn’t gimmicky and actually offers the real deal compared to other smartphone photography contenders.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro (or any existing 1-inch-equipped smartphones around) can’t and won’t “replace” any professional cameras anytime soon. However, I can confidently say that the Xiaomi 13 Pro lives up to its professional photography promises.” Vincenz

Redmi Note 12

“It’s a cheap phone that’s good but it also comes with its drawbacks. Yet, despite the sometimes inconsistent camera performance and inevitable bloatware, the Redmi Note 12 still impressed enough.

It’s a good smartphone, whether you’re trying to save up on a couple of bucks, or you’re just about to purchase your first device. It’s a good First Dance to have; a smartphone you’d be proud to call your GadgetMatch.” Karlo

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G

“The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is an upper midrange smartphone that can keep up and live up to its promises. It is a very recommendable midrange smartphone considering it has a less heavy price tag despite being heavy with features.

You’ll get that rich audiovisual experience, a not-so-typical Redmi design and premium-like build quality, satisfying performance, more than sufficient battery life, rapid charging speeds, and cameras that are enough for your needs day and night.” Vincenz

Gadgets that truly deserve the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval

on

We wouldn’t call ourselves “GadgetMatch” without being able to recommend you “gadgets” that “match” your needs, right?

Aside from smartphones, our members also gave other devices the GadgetMatch Seal of Approval — whether that’s a tablet, smartwatch, smart TV, desktop, laptop, wireless earbuds. Heck, there’s even more than just one handheld gaming console!

Just like the smartphone version of GadgetMatch’s Approved list, this is in descending order from most recently published.

GameSir G8 Galileo

“Most smartphone controllers prioritize portability. Thus, they’re more compact. The GameSir G8 Galileo changes all of that because of its size. It’s also not just larger. Its ergonomics are great too. Your hands will sit nicely on the nice, curved handles for a more comfortable, more enjoyable handheld gaming session.

The feel of the controller is fantastic and is easily the most enjoyable out of every other smartphone controller that I’ve tried before.” Rodneil

ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023)

ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023)

“I have already said this at the start of the article, but it bears repeating. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is an all-eggs-in-one-basket machine that can keep up with you in play, work, and everything else in between.

If I, a long-time Mac user, absolutely HAD TO switch to Windows, this is the laptop that I will go for. “ Rodneil

Apple M3 Max MacBook Pro

“If you feel like you need more power, more performance, more battery life, go out and buy an M3-powered MacBook Pro. I can go on and on, but simply put, there’s nothing like it in the market today.” — Michael Josh

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra

“When it comes to Android tablets, nothing quite comes close to the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra from Samsung. It’s definitely best in its class.” — Michael Josh

Xiaomi Pad 6

Xiaomi Pad 6

“The Xiaomi Pad 6 has to be the easiest Android tablet to recommend right now. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty polished for a first generation device.” Rodneil

Apple Mac Studio

“If you would consider yourself semi-pro or pro and require more power, then a Mac Studio is definitely worth checking out. Get the Mac Studio if more of your high-end work is done at a desk — whether that be at home or office. I love my Mac Studio, and I know you will too.” — Michael Josh

Apple M2 Max MacBook Pro 16”

“If you need more power and performance, then I also highly-recommend the MacBook Pro. These new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are so powerful and while it may be more power than what you need right now, if you plan on holding onto your machine for say 5 years — maybe even more, then as apps get more and more demanding, you’ll find that your machine will still be able to handle anything you throw at it for many, many years to come.” — Michael Josh

Apple M2 MacBook Air 15″

“It’s so easy to recommend the MacBook Air. It’s a well-built, thin and light laptop, with an affordable price tag. It has enough power for most users. And, it’s complemented by a rich Apple ecosystem.” — Michael Josh

ROG Zephyrus M16

ROG Zephyrus M16

“Overall, the ROG Zephyrus M16 was always designed to be one of the best gaming laptops out there, and this iteration is just no different. There are more affordable options for this model, with one of them at PhP 169,995 for the RTX 4070 model. Even so, that’s still an impressive piece of work that will elevate the gaming experience further.” GadgetMatch
