Redmi K30 Pro with Snapdragon 865, 3x optical zoom launches

Coming soon to the international markets

The launch of Redmi K20 series was the first time the brand tried to breach the midrange segment and enter the high-end segment. Now with the K30 Pro, the company intends to continue the legacy. The Redmi K30 Pro is now officially launched in China and will be coming to India as well as other markets soon.

On the front, it has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and HDR10+ support. Unlike the current trend of having a display with a higher refresh rate, this phone sticks to the conventional 60Hz panel.

Many brands have ditched the mechanized pop-up camera setup, but Xiaomi has opted to go for it and the K30 Pro gets a sliding front camera module. Thankfully, the module still houses an LED notification light that’s proven to be a nifty feature to have during day-to-day usage.

The device features Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset, directly meaning it also supports 5G. This is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. In-line with many other Xiaomi phones, it houses a vapor chamber for liquid cooling, keeping the phone’s performance consistent even during extended heavy usage.

The Redmi K30 Pro features a quad-rear camera setup consisting of a 64-megapixel primary sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 5-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. As mentioned above, the phone’s front camera sits in a sliding pop-up module and constitutes a 20-megapixel sensor for selfies.

Just like all other Redmi-branded phones, it runs on MIUI out-of-the-box. Backing these internals is a 4700mAh battery with 33W fast charging via USB-C. Lastly, the phone has IP53 water resistance and a linear motor for better haptic feedback.

Along with the Redmi K30 Pro, Xiaomi also unveiled the K30 Pro Zoom Edition that comes with an 8-megapixel telephoto lens that supports 30x zoom in comparison to the 5-megapixel macro lens on the standard version.

The starting variant with 6GB+128GB configuration is priced at CNY 2,999 (US$ 425), the 8GB+128GB option is priced at CNY 3,399 (US$ 480), and the top alteration with 8GB+256GB will cost CNY 3,699 (US$ 520).

OnePlus 9 series will launch on March 23

Launching with the Hasselblad camera

It’s official. The OnePlus 9 series is coming soon. After weeks of buildup, the company has officially announced then the next flagship series is coming: March 23. In three official teaser tweets, OnePlus has confirmed both the series’ launch and a tantalizing detail teased through rumors over the past month.

Posted today through OnePlus’s official Twitter account, the company unveiled what was coming in the next month. As expected, the series will focus on smartphone photography, touting the line, “Your Best Shot.” Previously, a leak spoiled OnePlus’s new Hasselblad partnership. The teasers now confirm it. Further, the series will sport a Sony IMX789 camera sensor, which will capture videos in 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. Surprisingly, the teasers have already confirmed what the camera setup will look like, echoing the leaked images released prior.

If that isn’t enough, OnePlus has also teased a US$ 150 million investment on smartphone photography over the next three years, confirming that the company is going all-in on the market segment.

Besides the photography angle, OnePlus has also confirmed 5G connectivity for the OnePlus 9 series. It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore at this point, but it bears repeating, especially since 5G is still in its early stages.

In other (currently unconfirmed rumors), the OnePlus 9 series will reportedly have a 1440p screen with 120Hz refresh rate, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. Presumably, the series (or at least, one variant) will sport the new Snapdragon 888 chipset.
