OPPO announced a three-year strategic partnership with legendary camera manufacturer Hasselblad.  This is to elevate the user’s smartphone photography experience even further.

The landmark announcement allows the two companies to co-develop industry-leading camera technologies for OPPO’s flagship Find X series.

In line with the partnership, OPPO | Hasselblad Camera for Mobile will be first introduced in the next generation of OPPO’s Find X series starting in 2022.

Hasselblad previously partnered with OnePlus — OPPO’s sister brand.

World-class mobile photography

Since the OPPO and OnePlus merger, research and development resources between the brands have been combined for a more improved user experience.

With such advancements, OPPO is expected to deliver on building top-tier imaging systems that shall translate to a world-class mobile photography experience for users.

The partnership follows the launch of OPPO’s first self-development imaging neural processing unit (NPU), MariSilicon X, showing its commitment to creating world-class photography at the palm of consumers’ hands.

Advanced mobile photography with less issues

The new MariSilicon X is an NPU that improves machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) in a smartphone, leading to a better overall user experience.

When it comes to mobile photography, having the MariSilicon X will lead to even more optimized mobile photography with less issues.

It will save more battery life when taking photos and 4K videos, as the MariSilicon X delivers up to 18 TOP (trillion operations per second). In fact, shooting in 4K on a phone with MariSilicon X will consume 50 percent less power.

The next OPPO smartphones powered by the new NPU will enable users to produce photos with HDR at four times better – at 20 bit, 120db dynamic range, or 1 million to 1 contrast ratio.

Likewise, along with AI features like noise reduction algorithms and an improved RGBW sensor, 4K AI HDR Night Video capturing on OPPO smartphones will now be possible.

Using color science for improved captures

Already known for its smartphone models’ cameras, OPPO is looking forward to taking the next step, focusing on natural colors with its color science-centered collaboration with Hasselblad.

This will include leveraging Natural Color Calibration to bring the most natural skin tone possible to portrait shots and proving the mobile photography experience.

The plan will start with software improvements for natural color tuning. It will be a long-term goal for the partnership to enhance color calibration solutions for all OPPO mobile phones. The ultimate goal is to become the standard in camera color performance.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 is reportedly scheduled for 2029 premiere

That’s a pretty long wait.

“Golden” must be the most popular song this year. Months after the launch of KPop Demon Hunters, the catchy song is still an earworm. Capitalizing on the hit’s success, Netflix is already considering a sequel. Now, KPop Demon Hunters 2 has reportedly been confirmed with a distant release window.

After less than a year, KPop Demon Hunters is already Netflix’s most-watched title ever. The platform was even confident enough to release the film (and a special singalong version) in select theaters. Soon after the success, Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix kept a potential sequel in mind.

Now, according to Deadline, Netflix has greenlit the sequel for production. KPop Demon Hunters 2, or whatever it might be called, will reportedly premiere sometime in 2029.

No, it’s not just you. Four years is a lengthy wait for a sequel. Then again, animated films take much longer to make. For example, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, coincidentally also coming from Sony Pictures Animation, will premiere in 2027, which is also four years after the previous film.

However, if the Spider-Verse trilogy is any indication, the longer production time can easily churn out a film that tops charts. Both Across the Spider-Verse and KPop Demon Hunters are easily the top animated contenders of its respective years.

The Nintendo Switch is nearing the end of its lifecycle

Nintendo will focus more on the Switch 2 going forward.

Published

on

It’s the beginning of the end for the Nintendo Switch. After almost nine years of the original console, Nintendo is just about ready to move on to the next generation.

According to a recent earnings report, Nintendo has announced that the company will start focusing on the Switch 2. “Going forward, we will shift our primary development focus to Nintendo Switch 2 and expand our business around this new platform,” the report said.

Since it was launched earlier this year, the Switch 2 exceeded the company’s expectations. The new console has already surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide, making it Nintendo’s fastest-selling console so far. In fact, the company is already worried about shortages in some parts of the world.

As pointed out by the report, 84 percent of current Switch 2 users transitioned from the original console generation. Owners of the first console are transitioning at a uniform rate.

Currently, there is no explicit plan to fully move away from the first generation yet. The issued statement, however, heralds the end. This will likely start off on a subtler note: fewer games coming out and fewer consoles available in the market.

So, there is no pressing need to switch over to the newer console immediately. However, this should be a warning for users that the end is nearing.

For what it’s worth, the Switch 2 offers backwards compatibility. If you have a shapely catalog of games from the first generation, you can still use them on the newer one. Also, there is a growing number of exclusive games that make use of the more powerful hardware, so it’s a worthy upgrade.
