Nokia 3310 finally gets 3G to make it more relevant in 2017

Earlier this year, Nokia (under the helm of HMD Global) brought its famous phone from the past back to life. While we’re all enthusiastic about the new Nokia 3310, a few developed nations can’t join the fun because the colorful feature phone wouldn’t work in their region until now.

When the new 3310 was launched at Mobile World Congress 2017, it only had support for 2.5G networks. That brought up some concerns for interested nostalgic fans living in countries like Australia and Singapore, where 2G networks have already been shut down.

Good thing HMD Global has just announced a 3G version of the new 3310. It’ll sport the same specs (aside from the 3G radio), with a 2.4-inch color LCD, 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and 16MB of expandable storage. The design will be similar to the 2G model with slight adjustments in the keypad.

According to HMD Global, the new phone has up to 6.5 hours of talk time and up to 27 days of standby time. Rest assured, long battery life is still its major feature — apart from the nostalgic vibe.

It’ll be first available in Australia starting next month — October 16 to be exact. The new 3G model will retail for EUR 69 (US$ 80) and will come in four colors: yellow, warm red, azure, and charcoal.
