Xiaomi confirms imminent Mi A2 launch with teaser

One of Xiaomi’s more popular phones last year was the Mi A1. It wasn’t necessarily a game-changer — it even takes the same form as the Mi 5X — but it had one thing most tech enthusiasts clamor for: a pure Android experience.

It’s been nearly a year since the launch, and Xiaomi will soon unveil its successor, the Mi A2. The Chinese company can’t seem to contain its excitement, posting a teaser on its official channels before the upcoming reveal:

It comes with a set of hashtags that clearly indicate what we’re going to see. It’s going to succeed the Mi A1, it’ll have Android One on board, and will most surely be called the Mi A2.

Xiaomi already rolled out the Mi 6X, which is what the Mi A2 will likely be based on, so we already have a clear idea of what to expect. In short, it’s going to be a Mi 6X with a pure Android interface plastered on it instead of Xiaomi’s usual MIUI.

The advantages of Android One are primarily in the guaranteed software updates for at least two years and monthly security patches. It’s close to what Pixel users experience, minus some of the fancy features the premium Google phones own.

Hardware-wise, it’s going to have the specifications of a great midrange handset. We’ll see a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display, efficient yet powerful Snapdragon 660 processor, and lots of megapixels on both the front camera and dual rear cameras.

Sources say it’ll launch in Madrid, Spain next week, so we won’t need to wait much longer. The Mi 6X retails for about US$ 250, so we’re hoping the Mi A2 will either match that or go even lower.
