AMD announces Dragon Range lineup for extreme gaming laptops
Coming in 2023

Formerly a niche product, gaming laptops have blossomed into their own capable market. Component makers are already prioritizing laptop parts as part of their lineups. Pushing the envelope further, AMD, one of those component makers, has announced a new processor series, called the Dragon Range, to power ultra-high end gaming laptop.
Today, AMD uses the same series for both extreme gaming and light gaming devices. However, starting in 2023, the company will further delineate the two form factors from each other, as revealed by Ian Cutress on Twitter. Whereas the extreme gaming market will have the upcoming Dragon Range line, thinner laptops will have the upcoming Phoenix line.
Well there we go, @AMD Dragon Range replaces the HX market, DDR5. Phoenix in the more traditional H market, LPDDR5 only. Process node not mentioned. Graphics not mentioned. $AMD pic.twitter.com/4BCYQSMe1z

What’s the difference between the two? The smaller Phoenix line will use LPDDR5 memory, while the heftier Dragon Range will come with up to DDR5. (However, the source does clarify that both lines can still use the other standard in some variants.)
Naturally, both lineups haven’t released yet. AMD hasn’t even released more detailed specs other than what was revealed in the slide.
If you’ve seen the gaming laptop market lately, you’ve probably noticed the variety available for gamers. While the common preconception of gaming laptops is a hulking mass of a device, lighter and thinner devices with just as much power are also available.
