Apple users wish for longer battery life and shatter-proof screen, survey says

And would rather keep the notch

Published

Whether you love or hate it, the notch has created the industry’s most divisive rift since Apple versus Android. Both rivals have stated their arguments for and against the controversial feature.

For a feature aimed only to minimize bezels, the notch has earned a lot of ire. However, a recent survey indicates that the rage isn’t as wild as we thought.

Through SurveyMoney, USA Today conducted a survey with 1,665 participants. Very simply, the survey asked the participants what features they desperately wanted to see in the new iPhones. Instead of a blank slate, the survey gave a series of options. With those options, the results were a huge surprise.

Despite the perceived anger over the notch, only 10 percent of respondents wanted the notch banished from existence. Comparatively, the notch’s removal scored the lowest among the items on the list.

Leading the pack, a stunning 75 percent wished for longer battery life. In second place, 66 percent wanted a shatter-proof display. Thirdly, 44 percent wish for the long-missing expandable storage feature.

Besides these, the other items include bringing back the audio port, adopting a USB Type-C standard, improving Face ID, and faster apps.

Initially, the survey asked respondents to pick as many as they want. Afterwards, it asked them to pick just one.

Again, removal of the notch scored dead last. Instead, the longer battery life took the lead at 38 percent. Meanwhile, the shatter-proof display followed closely behind at 24 percent.

As of now, only a few days remain before Apple unveils this year’s new iPhones. The new lineup will launch on September 12. Regardless of what will actually launch, the notch will likely remain. With this survey, both Apple and its loyal users are a-okay with the divisive notch.

The iPhone 18 might sell out for an unexpected reason

The ongoing shortage might play a part in the phone selling out earlier than expected.

Published

on

An iPhone selling out is not news. Because of how popular the phones are, it’s within the realm of probability that Apple runs out of stock at some point. According to a new report, this year won’t be any different… but it’s for an entirely different reason.

First reported by analyst Tim Culpan, Apple is reportedly struggling to meet its demand for semiconductors for the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone. The ongoing memory shortage is cutting off Apple’s ability to deliver the required supply of smartphones in a timely fashion. The report even claims that TSMC, which helps produce the iPhone, is sitting on a shipment of processors, worth US$ 1 billion, that don’t have memory chips.

Now, Apple is still confident that it can weather the launch. However, if the shortage persists, the iPhone 18 generation will likely sell out much more quickly than expected.

It’s an interesting time for Apple to experience such a shortage. It’s been heavily rumored that the company will launch its very first foldable phone next month, creating a new market for the brand. Apple definitely wants this attempt to succeed after the tepid response to its last new product, the Vision Pro.
