DOOM: The Dark Ages rumored to debut next month

At the Xbox Games Showcase

Published

While the old-school DOOM is still lighting up gamers today, the more contemporary DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal continue to bring the demon-slaying series to modern gamers. That said, it’s been a while since the last entry in the series. The long wait might finally be over, though. According to new sources, the next game, titled DOOM: The Dark Ages, will debut very soon.

According to Insider Gaming, the upcoming first-person shooter will get an official announcement at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase happening on June 9. For reference, DOOM Eternal came out in 2020, four years after 2016’s reboot. With another four-year gap, it’s the perfect time for a threequel.

The upcoming game has reportedly been in development for at least four years. During this time, the title made its way through the grapevine with the codename “Year Zero.” Now, it’s finally getting an official title which, according to the rumor, will be “The Dark Ages.”

Now, a temporary codename and a rumored final name is hardly anything to go by. However, the two names hint at where the franchise is going next. It’s either a time-hopping caper or a far-flung prequel to the main series. Either way, the same rumor confirms that a medieval-themed world is coming.

Thankfully, it isn’t long before the rumored debut date. This year’s Xbox Gaming Showcase is happening on June 9.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance out now

A tale of two paths

Shin Megami Tensei V

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is finally out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. The title follows Shin Megami Tensei V from three years ago, and is bolstered with several enhancements and additional content.

In celebration of the title’s release, ATLUS is also giving away a Steam Deck (512GB) and two (2) Nahobeeho Keycaps once their giveaway post reaches 500 shares. Just like typical giveaways on social media platforms, simply follow the ATLUS Asia Facebook page here, like and share this post, and tag two friends in the comments section.

The definitive version of Shin Megami Tensei V has been expanded with a brand-new storyline, new locations, demons, and choices to make that will dictate the fate of all existence. Moreover, the action RPG has also been evolved with refreshed visuals fit for modern consoles, an improved battle system, and a greater field exploration.

A tale of vengeance or creation

The new game features two main storylines: Canon of Creation and Canon of Vengeance. The first follows the original story told in Shin Megami Tensei V. The second, meanwhile, is a new tale that diverges from the first midway, resulting in a different ending.

Players begin as a third-year student at Jouin High School who will have to explore a post-apocalyptic Tokyo (Da’at). This land has been ravaged and reduced to a wasteland being overrun by mythical demons. This protagonist eventually becomes a Nahobino, fusing with an Aogami, and finds themselves in the middle of a battle between mythical deities and demonic forces.

As demons continue to attack, an organization led by angels — Bethel — rises up against them. The protagonist encounters Yoko Hiromine, and becomes among those in the frontline of battle. Along the way, four demons, collectively called the Qadištu, will stand in their way.

Press Turn Combat, Magatsuhi Skills

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance features over 270 demons, some of which may be recruited as allies. Players must also gather life-saving items as they navigate the chaotic world. The title once more features the turn-based Press Turn Combat system, with new skills and elements. In battle, players may fill the Magatsuhi Gauge to trigger special abilities called Magatsuhi Skills. There are more than 50 skills to utilize, including 20 added abilities that are exclusive to certain demons.

Furthermore, all demons now possess innate skills like Blessed Melody, Four Heavenly Kings, and Demonic Mediation. These are passive skills that can give players an extra edge in battle. Some may power up attacks, strengthen certain demons, and even aid you when negotiating with demons.

Visions of Mana

Square Enix has announced that Visions of Mana, the latest mainline title to the Mana video game series, is releasing on August 29, 2024. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam (August 30).

In addition, a new trailer has been released to highlight new playable characters and gameplay features. Preorders for the game is ongoing.

Visions of Mana is the latest installment in the Mana series, or Seiken Densetsu in Japan. It follows main protagonist Val, the Soul Guard, as he joins his childhood friend Hinna, the newly appointed Alm of Fire, to a pilgrimage to the Mana Tree. This tree controls the flow of mana throughout the world, and Val has sworn to protect it so they can ensure the world’s safety as well.

The game also introduces more playable characters like Careena, Morley, Palamena, Julei, Ramcoh, and Aesh. Players may create a three-member party and freely switch out characters. Moreover, they may change combat classes with the power of elementals.

Just like with previous titles under the series, the latest action-RPG features real-time combat against enemies. It isn’t necessarily open world, but there are vast maps players may explore as they advance with the main story.

Elden Ring DLC requires you to beat a difficult late-game boss

Have you beaten this boss?

Published

We are officially only a little over a week away from the first Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. This time, FromSoftware promises a huge expansion to rival the main game. However, as with every DLC, there’s a very specific way to access the content. Thankfully, FromSoftware has announced its biggest tip on how to enter Shadow of the Erdtree.

Across the years, FromSoftware has notoriously hidden the entrances to its DLCs under the most arcane methods. Bloodborne, for example, requires players to get a new item and to be voluntarily swept up by a very specific creature. Plus, the games barely give any tips.

That said, Shadow of the Erdtree might be the most straightforward DLC entrance to date. Since the DLC is all about Miquella, the entrance is likely near the last remaining trace of the mysterious character: Mohg’s boss arena.

Today, through its official X account, Bandai Namco confirmed this by quoting a post that says Mohg is required to access the DLC. Of note, at the time of the post, only 37.8 percent of Steam players have the achievement corresponding to beating Mohg. Given that Mohg is a mid- to late-game boss, a lot of players still have some work to do before the DLC’s launch on June 21.

Despite confirming as such, FromSoftware did not fully explain what is needed to access the DLC. However, it’s certainly the most straightforward they’ve been when it comes to accessing their content.
