DXOMark gives Redmi Note 8 Pro a low score
It gets a score of 84
Redmi Note 8 Pro is a midrange device released by Xiaomi last year. Its key selling point is its camera, which is a 64MP wide-angle + 8MP ultra-wide-angle + 2MP depth sensor + 2MP macro camera. While the camera might impress everyone, reviewers at DXOMark think otherwise. DXOMark just gave the device an abysmal score of 84.
Photos are fine for its category
For photo ops, Redmi Note 8 scored a low 87. That score is in line with other devices from the same category, such as Motorola Moto One Zoom and the Samsung Galaxy A50.
DXOMark praised the good performance of the device’s autofocus, bokeh mode, and exposure.
However, it got a bad rap over the lack of fine details in all shooting scenarios – especially, when shooting indoors. DXOMark also found issues with its dynamic range — it is limited, and shots are less vibrant as a result.
Since there is no dedicated telephoto camera, the Redmi Note 8 Pro depends on the software for zoom shots. As a result, zooms shots also lack details. Lack of details even extends to its ultra-wide-angle camera.
Videos are worse
The video recording performance of Redmi Note 8 Pro received a much lower score. It received a 78, but not everything’s lost with this device. DXOMark praised the device’s good target exposure. Plus, videos are vivid and pleasant to look at. The stabilization got praises too, for being effective at countering camera shake when the device moves.
Still, issues with white balance and exposure plagued the video recording performance of this device. While the device is capable of 4K, DXOMark criticized the limited dynamic range, lack of details, and overall noise in all recording situations.
While Redmi Note 8 Pro receives a lackluster score from DXOMark, there are still many positive aspects to like about the device. At its asking price, consumers get a beefy processor, an immersive Full HD screen, and an all-day battery life. Still, DXOMark’s scores are lessons to be learned for Xiaomi that a bigger resolution doesn’t always equate to better photos and videos.

Taiwan issues arrest warrant for OnePlus CEO
Pete Lau allegedly employed 70 Taiwanese engineers illegally.
OnePlus might be starting off the year with a minus-one from their ranks. Taiwan has issued an arrest warrant for the brand’s CEO Pete Lau for allegedly employing Taiwanese workers illegally.
It’s a shocker of a headline in the first few weeks of 2026. According to Taiwan News, Lau created a new company in Hong Kong with two conspirators surnamed Lin and Cheng. The company was allegedly a shell company to expand OnePlus operations elsewhere. It eventually established a branch in Taiwan.
Between 2015 and 2021, the company supposedly shipped around US$ 72.93 million to the Taiwanese branch for the staff recruitment of over 70 engineers from the country. According to Lin and Cheng, who have both been charged by Taiwanese courts already, the Taiwan branch’s purpose was only to conduct research and development for OnePlus. Others have also alleged that the branch developed software for both OnePlus and OPPO.
As such, Taiwan has issued a warrant for Pete Lau. Because of the long-standing tensions between Taiwan and China, Lau is facing a heavy issue. Both his alleged conspirators have been charged with violations of the Cross-Strait Act, which pertains to the relationship between the two countries.
