Google Pixel 6 series will not have a free charger
Pixel 5a will be the last with a charger
Along with a few others, the world’s biggest smartphone makers ditched the free charging adapter from new smartphone boxes. Apple kicked everything off by shipping the iPhone 12 without a charger, making for a thinner box. Samsung followed soon after. Now, Google is making the same decision, taking out the free charger from the Pixel 6 series.
In a statement to The Verge, Google has confirmed a charger-less package for the Pixel 6 series later this year. According to the report, the company believes that everyone already has a charging brick anyway, eliminating the need to make more. That said, the Pixel 5a will be the last Pixel phone to have a charger included in the box.
Besides what Google said, the company also gets an economical advantage for getting rid of the free charger. They won’t need to manufacture as many parts and will be able to ship more of the smaller boxes in a single shipment. Companies also state that a charger-less box is also beneficial to the environment, such as what Apple claims.
Google officially teased the Pixel 6 series earlier this month. The upcoming flagship series is coming later this fall. It is coming with Google’s first in-house processor, the Tensor, along with a flurry of specs to boot.

OPPO Reno15 Series 5G features smart tools for creative travel content
Coming soon in the Philippines
The upcoming OPPO Reno15 Series 5G features smart tools for creative travel content, as well as a potent camera system to help users make their moments.
OPPO’s latest camera-centric line entries feature 4K HDR Ultra-Steady Video, built to capture smooth and stable footage even when users are on the go.
This feature is ideal for quick vlogs, scenic cutaways, and everyday travel updates that are usually posted on social media.
The phones also have a 50MP Ultra Wide Selfie Camera that can be utilized for group shots. This way, even the scenery can be included in the background.
Users do not have to undergo trial-and-error as the phone doesn’t have to be flipped to use a traditional rear ultra-wide camera.
One of the AI-powered features on the OPPO Reno15 Series 5G is the AI Motion Photo Popout. Users can add a more dynamic feel to still images, making them stand out and move beyond the frame.
Designed for easy sharing, it’s a playful way to turn everyday shots into eye-catching content.
Furthermore, on the top-of-the-line models, users can leverage 3.5X Telephoto Vibe portrait. This adds depth and focus to photos, capturing details in moments worth sharing.
The OPPO Reno15 Series 5G will launch in the Philippines on February 13. Full specs, pricing, and promos will be unveiled on that date.
Believe me or not, I only had one encounter with an OPPO phone, and it was an A-series one from 2021.
Almost five years in, I was finally given the chance to hold the Chinese brand’s latest and greatest Reno.
Without beating around the bush, here’s my first time with the OPPO Reno15 Pro (which also happens to be my first OPPO midrange experience).
First Look
The moment I unsealed its sturdy packaging, the OPPO Reno15 Pro greeted me in this shining, shimmering blue backing.
Dubbed as the “Aurora Blue” colorway, it instantly reminded me that I’m still not over that Aurora Borealis scene in the latest hit K-Drama “Can This Love Be Translated?” starred by Kim Seonho and Go Younjung.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, flashy finishes are the least of my options when choosing for a new phone. Still, this finish wins over the less impressive Dusk Brown shade.
Just like that dazzling northern lights, the Reno15 Pro shows off its aurora accents depending on how the sun hits it.
In the faintest of light, that aurora simply vanishes. Even so, the OPPO Reno15 Pro still shines through with its specks of glitter.
That’s more evident when you bring the OPPO Reno15 Pro indoors — be that your cool room (literally) or a warmly-lit café.
Its camera cutout may not be the most unique out there, but it’s uniformed enough to look clean. After all, a phone’s camera arrangement isn’t what defines the overall performance of its cameras.
First Date
Although 8.13mm isn’t “thin” in today’s standards, holding and keeping the OPPO Reno15 Pro for prolonged periods never felt a sore. Its aerospace-grade aluminum frame may just be one among many factors.
One after another, that 6.32-inch AMOLED 120Hz display is a huge complement to the hands. It fits my huge palms, more so, pockets of all sorts. This sweet screen size is also a breath of fresh air in a vast world of large slabs.
When hit by that harsh sunlight, it’s more than bright– up to 3600 nits of peak HDR brightness if I must insist. And, no matter what kind of content I consume, it’s truly crisp, clear, and even color-accurate.
Being powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8450 SoC alongside OPPO’s ColorOS 16 is what made me stuck longer. It honestly felt like I’m in a smooth ride without any road traffic.
The OPPO Reno15 Pro has a great harmony between its software snappiness and fluidity. Animations flow without feeling rushed — much like enjoying date nights without being pressured to catch the last bus trip back home.
Speaking of staying out late for a date, the Reno15 Pro lasted me more than enough. And, despite its petite form, it managed to fit in a 6200mAh battery inside.
The screen size to battery ratio is just a perfect match. Not only it fits in most (if not all) hands and pockets, it also meant being able to squeeze in more battery to make the most out of your day, night, and even midnight.
If juice gets squeezed out, its 80W SuperVOOC charging will truly save the day!
That doesn’t even end there. With triple IP ratings (IP66, IP68, IP69), you’re more than assured that it’s durable enough in occasional (and accidental) phone drops.
First Impressions
The OPPO Reno15 Pro, despite being categorized as a midrange device, already feels like a solid vanilla flagship.
Much like any other first dates, its overall appearance is just on the surface level. What made me invested more to know the Reno15 Pro further are none other than its intrinsic qualities.
That includes that screen size (or form factor) on the sweet spot plus oh-so-fluid ColorOS. Moreover, its powerful core paired with a humongous battery that will truly last you long.
While I may not have included any photo sample in this early look, I can already assure you that it has one of the greatest camera performers for its class. And actually, it is for another story 😉.
My first time with an OPPO Reno smartphone not only made me impressed. This phone also enticed me to consider switching to the OPPO system when another review opportunity arises.
The curtains have finally been lifted. Though it took a while compared to previous years, Samsung has revealed when the year’s first Galaxy Unpacked will happen. And yes, as expected, the event will see the debut of the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
Previously, rumors have suggested that Samsung is holding its next Galaxy Unpacked at a later date. Traditionally, Samsung holds the annual event towards the tail end of January. Since we’re already in February, it’s abundantly clear that the rumors were right. Now, it’s confirmed.
Samsung has officially released invites for the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked. The event is scheduled for February 25.
As expected, Samsung is bringing its next flagship, the Galaxy S26 series to the event. The brand will also update Galaxy AI for the flagship series.
As early as last year, reports have already hinted at improvements coming to the series. Right now, the biggest headline is how the upcoming Exynos 2600, which will debut with the Galaxy S26 series, is reportedly at par with Apple’s A19 Pro.
In other news, the series will supposedly retire the Plus model, which would otherwise have been the Galaxy S26+. The middle child of a flagship series is often the experimental one. Besides Samsung, Apple will reportedly sunset the iPhone Air, its own version of the middle child.
Right now, all we can do is speculate on the upcoming series. Until its arrival soon, that is. For now, stay tuned for more coverage of the series launch from GadgetMatch.
