OnePlus 7 Pro scores high on DxOMark, the company’s best yet

A significant upgrade from its predecessor

Fresh from its international launch, the OnePlus 7 Pro proves that it’s the company’s greatest phone yet. Apart from having the best possible specs, it also sports excellent cameras. DxOMark, one of the leading camera benchmark labs, gave OnePlus’ new flagship phone an impressive triple-digit score.

The new OnePlus 7 Pro has a total score of 111 on DxOMark Mobile. Individually, the OnePlus 7 Pro has a Photo score of 118 and a Video score of 98. For selfies, it gets an 86.

Checking the phone’s overall ranking on DxOMark, the OnePlus 7 is currently the second highest-rated smartphone camera today. The phone is just one point behind Huawei’s P30 Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G.

According to DxOMark’s findings, the OnePlus 7 Pro is indeed a big step forward for OnePlus. With the new triple camera system, the phone has great versatility for amateur and professional photographers alike. DxOMark wasn’t able to objectively test the ultra-wide camera, but the main and telephoto shooters have excellent image quality.

In photography, the OnePlus 7 Pro can take stills with accurate exposures and wide dynamic range. Its new autofocus system is fast and precise as well. Details in the images are well-preserved. Plus, the bokeh effect in Portrait Mode is effective. However, there’s visible luminance noise in indoor shadows. Zoom shots have slightly desaturated colors.

For taking videos, it’s a capable camcorder. Again, it shoots with well-preserved details and accurate exposures. Additionally, white balance is generally on point. Also, it has fast autofocus. The optical image stabilization works pretty great, too. It’s not perfect though, because of strong aliasing and limited dynamic range.

You can check out DxOMark’s full review here and take a look at the samples used for the test. DxOMark tested the front camera as well which is available for reading here.

Honor 20 Pro Moschino edition unveiled

There are Moschino cases, too!

This is not a drill.

With Honor’s announcement of their Honor 20 series came a fashion collaboration that definitely excites me. The Honor 20 Pro Moschino edition was just announced and I just love how extra it is.

The phone itself has the worlds “This is not a Moschino phone” stamped on the back in true Moschino fashion. Of course, there’s a matching wallpaper that says, what else: “This is not a Moschino wallpaper.”

There are also cases that follow that design lead…

My favorite, a case that features similar bold text for that Moschino flair and straps that you can even hook to your bag.

Though all designs are fresh, the partnership isn’t surprising. Moschino’s Jeremy Scott is known for collaboration, not to mention, Honor also teamed up with the Italian fashion brand for the Honor View 20’s design.

No details on pricing and availability for this particular version of the Honor 20 Pro is out yet but one thing’s for sure: I’m loving the fashion x tech partnership and I’m definitely hoping for more!

Honor 20 Lite offers triple rear cameras for lower price

The more affordable ones

Apart from the main Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro models, there’s another Honor 20 phone: the Honor 20 Lite. As the successor to the Honor 10 Lite, the new budget-friendly Honor 20 variant is meant to be in the lower tier.

The Honor 20 Lite has a 6.21-inch Dewdrop FullView display with a Dynamic prism-shaped gradient color body. It mimics the look of its more premium siblings, but for less cost.

As a midrange-specced Honor phone, it’s powered by the widely used (within the Honor and Huawei family) Kirin 710 processor paired with 4GB of memory and 128GB of internal storage. Unsurprisingly, it runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 out of the box.

Camera-wise, it has three rear AI cameras: a main 24-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. In front, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera inside the display’s notch.

The phone’s 3400mAh battery is respectable, but it doesn’t support SuperCharge and it charges through a micro-USB port. For comparison, the P30 Lite from Huawei already has a reversible USB-C. Additionally, the phone’s fingerprint reader is located on its back.

The Lite model is already available in stores in Europe for EUR 299 or around US$ 335 when converted.

Honor 20 Pro ties with OnePlus 7 Pro on DxOMark

Even beats the Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Honor has never been one to make noise on DxOMark’s camera performance charts, but the company finally felt that it’s time to set a high bar for all flagship smartphones to follow.

The Honor 20 Pro, which is the brand’s latest and best smartphone to date, earned a score tof 111 on DxOMark’s mobile ranking. That’s right below the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, plus it ties with the recently launched OnePlus 7 Pro.

It’s a major statement to say the least, and puts the Honor 20 Pro on the map as one of the best pocket shooters in the market.

When you check out its specs sheet, you wouldn’t be too surprised by the high score. The Honor 20 Pro has a 48-megapixel main camera with a bright f/1.4 aperture, 16-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, 8-megapixel telephoto unit, and a 2-megapixel macro option. Indeed, that’s as much variety as a smartphone can get.

In addition, the chipset that processes the P30 Pro’s images — the Kirin 980 — does the same work for the Honor 20 Pro’s photos. The broken-down scores of 117 for photos and 97 for videos simply prove that this Honor flagship is every bit as capable as its parent company’s best.

With a starting price of EUR 599, this is quite a deal for the camera performance you get out of it. You can learn more about the Honor 20 Pro in our unboxing and hands-on video:
