Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro goes official with a Super AMOLED display

With all the fancy devices we’re seeing, Samsung slipped in a new budget-conscious phone into their portfolio. If you find the Galaxy J7 Pro too much for your needs, this phone might just fit the bill.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro borrows the design of its bigger (and more expensive) cousin but has a budget-friendly configuration. It has a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a relatively low qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels). It’s powered by a quad-core processor supported by 1.5GB of memory and 16GB of expandable storage, and runs Android 7.0 Nougat.

Its cameras are pretty basic with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera

Since the phone is designed for emerging markets, it has easy maintenance thanks to its removable 2600mAh battery and uses the good old micro-USB port.

The phone supports two micro-SIM cards with LTE. It also has single-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. Unfortunately, the physical home button doesn’t house a fingerprint reader.

The Galaxy J2 Pro is available in black, blue, or gold. It’s currently listed in Vietnam for VND 3,290,000 or around US$ 144.


Google’s new apps will help you win friends and influence people

Days ago, Google discontinued its data-saving app, Datally. Presumably, the company is cutting down its expansive suite of niche apps. At least, that’s what it seemed at the time. However, Google just put a hole in that theory. After discontinuing one app, they are launch five more in its place.

As part of its ongoing Digital Wellbeing initiative, Google is rolling out five lifestyle apps dedicated to curbing your smartphone usage. These are Desert Island, Morph, Post Box, Unlock Clock, and We Flip.

What would you bring to a deserted island? This hypothetical question is one of the most popular conversation starters for ages. Desert Island ponders on the same question but regarding your app lifestyle. It asks which apps are the most essential to your day-to-day life. Then, Desert Island challenges you by disabling all other apps for the entire day.

Morph is a more intelligent app limiter. Instead of disabling apps, it will simply suggest which apps are most appropriate depending on your current situation. If you set it to Work, for example, Morph will suggest Gmail. Essentially, Morph is a smart predictor for app usage based on situation.

Though the previous two controls app usage, Post Box will control your notifications. The app will keep your notifications hidden until regular intervals throughout the day. Alternatively, it can keep all of them until the end of the day. Post Box will also organize the notifications for you.

Unlike the previous three, Unlock Clock is a simple wallpaper for your phone. Set on a gray background, the wallpaper is a counter that counts how many times you check your phone throughout the day.

Finally, We Flip is a social game between a group of friends. The game should already be familiar to most people. Set your phones face down in the middle of the table. When installed and paired between all phones, We Flip will start a timer. The first person to check their phone, loses. Further, it also logs in how many times each person checks their phone through the night.

Google introduced the Digital Wellbeing program at last year’s I/O. The initiative aims to improve the lifestyles of all Google users. All five apps are now available on the Play Store.

We’ve all heard the pitch — smartphones can be used to grace a cover shoot for a magazine or film an entire music video. Some people find it hard to believe that smartphones are now as powerful as ever.

However, acclaimed director Sophie Muller shocked the world when she directed Selena Gomez’s latest music video which was shot entirely on the new iPhone 11 Pro.

Singer-songwriter Selena Gomez dropped her much anticipated single. Entitled “Lose You To Love Me,” the song tackles the road to self-discovery and promoting self-love. Gomez says, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album.”

Gomez promoted the music video in a tweet with the hashtag #ShotOniPhone.

The music video was originally meant for Selenators and other pop culture connoisseur. To garner even more attention, Apple uploaded a one-minute clip on its YouTube channel promoting the music video as shot on its latest iPhone.


This isn’t the first time that a video was taken using an iPhone. To date, iPhones are being regarded for their highly capable cameras favored by photographers and videographers alike. This recent promotion is only a testament to how the iPhone 11 Pro might just be the best smartphone camera you can ever buy this year. Realme’s ColorOS 7 will have near-stock Android

Veering away from OPPO?



For months there have been rumors and reports about Realme working on its own Android skin, often called “Realme OS.” However, in a recent Q&A video, Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme, confirmed that phone will continue to be based on ColorOS.

The next major iteration of the skin is dubbed ColorOS 7 and expected to have a near-stock Android experience. What this means is, instead of a complete UI overhaul, the system will retain a majority of Android’s factory design and make incremental changes that don’t hinder the primary experience.

We’ve seen OnePlus ship OxygenOS with a similar philosophy and it has worked out very well for them. From a development point of view, pushing updates to phones could become easier if the core of Android remains untouched. Though there are more factors involved in designing a new update and this may not necessarily materialize.

Madhav also added that this ColorOS 7 will be exclusive to Realme phones, which could mean it won’t be available on OPPO’s phones. Unfortunately, a timeline of the software release hasn’t been shared yet.

This announcement comes just after a week of Xiaomi announcing its MIUI 11 update. The two brands are involved in a fierce battle for supremacy and company employees have often been vocal about this on social media.

There are also reports suggesting that Realme is testing ads within the System UI onboard Realme 1. A recent update to ColorOS 6 has unleashed ads within the Settings app. While this isn’t unheard of and Xiaomi phones have been doing this for quite some time, Realme hasn’t officially announced any secondary plans for ancillary monetization.
