Vivo’s APEX 2020 concept is a quantum leap for modern smartphones
Too good to be true?
Every year, Vivo has a new concept device to show under the APEX concept series and after showing a portless phone design last year, Vivo takes things to the next level with the APEX 2020. The prime one among all the features is the gimbal camera, which is a first for any smartphone.
The ‘gimbal-stabilizing’ 48-megapixel rear camera promises to reduce jitter in videos and long-exposure photographs by 200 percent.
Along with the gimbal camera, the APEX 2020 also features a 16-megapixel telephoto camera that can do an optical zoom of 7.5x. It comes with an in-display selfie camera, which means there’s no need for a notch, a display cutout, or even a pop-up camera.
The company has ditched all ports and buttons for this unibody design. So, instead of a USB port, there’s 60W wireless charging support. Yes, 60W wireless charging.
The display measures 6.5-inches and uses an AMOLED panel as expected. The phone does not have any physical speakers but it uses Vivo’s Screen SoundCasting technology to emit audio through the display itself. The APEX 2020 gets the same waterfall display we saw on the Vivo NEX 3 last year.
Aside from this, the APEX 2020 comes with top-of-the-line hardware, like a Snapdragon 865 processor, 12GB RAM, and 256GB internal storage. There’s also another feature called “Voice Tracking Auto-Focus,” which makes use of the phone’s three microphones to better focus on the audio of your desired subject.
It’s worth noting that this is just a concept phone right now and not a commercial announcement. We’d love to see all these features materialize, but it may be far from reality.
TikTok lost its voice a few months ago. Back in February, the platform lost its rights to use and offer music from artists affiliated with the Universal Music Group. A few weeks ago, Taylor Swift, the biggest artist in that group, returned to the platform. Now, other artists are following suit.
In an official press release, Universal Music Group has announced a new licensing agreement between its artists and TikTok. As a result, users can once again fill their videos with music from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and BTS.
With the new deal, TikTok’s woes in the music department are finally at an end. When the past deal ended, Universal initially refused a renewal, alleging that TikTok does not adequately pay artists for the use of their music. Once the deadline passed, TikTok was suddenly silent. Existing videos lost their music, and newly minted ones could not use the most popular selection of songs today.
Not surprisingly, Taylor Swift was ahead of the curve. Presumably because of her ownership over her masters, the world’s biggest musical artist returned to the platform without a new Universal deal. The return also came in time for Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Now, the platform finally has Universal’s entire selection back. If your videos need that extra spice, now’s the time to get back into it.
