Xiaomi’s budget line of Android phones is due for an upgrade. With a new leak floating on the internet, its release is imminent. Here’s what to expect.

Like the Redmi Note 5 which we saw last week, the new Redmi 5 will also have an 18:9 ratio for its near-borderless display. It’s a trend which started this year and the budget segment is now joining in. It’s clearly not a premium feature anymore.

The Redmi 5 will have a 5.7-inch display with an HD+ resolution or 1440 x 720 pixels. It’ll be powered by the good old Snapdragon 625 chipset with 4GB of memory and 64GB of internal storage.

For cameras, it’s got a single rear shooter with a 12-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel in front for selfies. A 3300mAh battery energizes the phone and charges through a micro-USB port (nope, no USB-C yet).

According to the leaked info, the handset will be available on December 10 with a rumored price of CNY 1,399 (US$ 210). The rumored pricing is pretty steep for a budget Xiaomi phone and already aligned with the Redmi 5X which has dual rear cameras and a higher-resolution display.

Let’s wait for the official announcement before passing any more judgment.
