Meizu Pro 7 leak reveals rear secondary display

In the search for the next big smartphone feature, Meizu has something up its sleeve for the upcoming Pro 7, and it’s shaping up to be more useful than expected based on the latest leak.

The live image appeared on Chinese website Weibo, revealing what appears to be a secondary electronic ink (e-ink) display on the back of the phone, just below the pair of primary cameras.

It’s not the first time a smartphone brand implemented such a feature. Russia-based Yota was the one that popularized the rear display design on its YotaPhone series. Cherry Mobile, which is based in the Philippines, also launched the similarly designed Taiji late last year.

The difference here is the secondary screen taking up just a fraction of the Pro 7’s back panel, so it can’t be used for reading books or comics like on Amazon’s popular Kindle lineup of e-readers.

As of now, all we can say is it’ll contain the usual time, date, and weather information, as well as shortcuts to common apps like the camera and phone dialer.

The rest of specifications are still a mystery, but considering how we have a live image to gander at now, the official launch shouldn’t be too far off.
