LG V40 could have a total of five cameras, because more means better

The race to more cameras has begun

Published

on

After Huawei’s incredible success with the P20 Pro, which stuck more cameras on the back to improve image quality (and it worked!), other manufacturers are looking to follow suit.

Rumors have been swirling around about Apple and Samsung installing a similar triple-camera setup on their 2019 flagships, but it’s possible LG will beat them to the punch.

That’s because the successor to last year’s flagship, the V30, could have a total of five cameras to boast — that would be two in front and three on the back.

Currently dubbed the V40, it’s on course to releasing during the V-series’ usual September timeline, and will come with the most number of cameras on a phone to date, if sources are to be believed.

This isn’t the first time LG will implement two cameras in front; however, the application may be beyond merely better-looking selfies, since the setup is rumored to enable an advanced form of face unlocking known as 3D face mapping.

While it’s less certain what the trio of cameras on the back will do, we’re assured that they’ll focus on greater versatility in both photography and shooting videos. A combination of wide, ultra-wide, and optical zoom lenses could be a game-changer and a threat to Huawei’s imaging dominance.

Now, this begs the question: Are we entering a new smartphone camera race? Since the megapixel wars died down and everyone accepted the fact that more megapixels don’t mean better image quality, we may now be facing a future wherein manufacturers will brag about having more shooters in place.

If so, I honestly wouldn’t mind. Anything’s better than companies comparing the size of their camera notches.

Sony WH-1000XM6 gets a new Olive Gray colorway option

The new color launches today.

Last year, the Sony WH-1000XM6 quickly became our favorite pair of noise-cancelling headphones. The audio quality pairs remarkably well with its ANC capabilities. Now, a year into the accessory’s life cycle, new colors are still coming out. Today, the acclaimed WH-1000XM6 is getting an Olive Gray variant.

A few months ago, Sony expanded the WH-1000XM6’s colorway options with a Sandstone version, launching alongside the Sony 1000X THE COLLEXION. At the time, the new color added a splash of life to an already blossoming lineup.

Now, much like the rest of the lineup, the new Olive Gray version is a subdued mashup between olive green and gray. Though it stands out on its own, the color is still cool enough to mix well with the contours of the user’s head.

Other than that, the new version is still identical to the inner workings of the original device. The Sony WH-1000XM6 comes with a new HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, providing 12 microphones for effective noise cancellation. In terms of audio quality, the headphones support High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless, thanks to LDAC support.

Also, the accessory sits comfortable on the head with a high rigidity carbon fiber composite material dome, cushioned well with synthetic leather.

As always, the Olive Gray version, launching today, will sell for US$ 459.99.

In Singapore, the Sony WH-1000XM6 in Olive Gray is available starting today through Sony Stores, the Sony Store Online, and authorized dealers for S$649, matching the pricing of the existing color options.
