Motorola could launch a foldable Razr phone
Could be announced next month
Remember the iconic Razr phone? Back then, a foldable phone had a different meaning and consisted of a hinge that separated the screen and keyboard. Today, thanks to bendable display technology, our definition of a folding phone have changed completely.
However, the feeling of picking up a call by opening the phone with a flip is unmatchable. And, Motorola may be bringing back all that nostalgia with a new “Razr” branded phone.
The company has sent out invitations to an event on November 13 that will feature a “highly anticipated unveiling of a reinvented icon.” Accompanying the invitation was an animated gif depicting the original Razr phone hinge design.
The Razr reboot has become one of the most anticipated smartphone releases among gadget enthusiasts. Its iconic flip became a cultural icon which made everyone wanted a Motorola flip phone.
There is a possibility the phone could feature a bendable display that opens up vertically. A report by The Wall Street Journal early this year stated that Motorola could be working on a reboot and plans on making a limited number of units. Each could sell for as much as US$ 1,500.
These retro reboots have worked quite well for other brands like HMD Global, who’s popular for launching classic Nokia-branded phones with modern features. Even BlackBerry has been experimenting with its keyboard and launched the Key2 last year.
With Huawei Mate X delayed and Galaxy Fold having its own set of problems, Motorola could have a shot at taking on Huawei and Samsung.

McAfee rolls out an easy way to detect scam texts and emails
Plus, they have a much lighter app.
Scammers are getting more brazen these days. Instead of going through the same scripts, malicious actors are now going for more robust schemes to impersonate official accounts. It’s impossible to go through a single week without a warning to never trust suspicious senders or links. To fight the latest wave of malicious parties, McAfee is launching new features to more easily find and eliminate potential threats.
As reported by McAfee, 88 percent of Americans have encountered a scam in the past year. The average person sees about 14 scams on a single day. And it’s not just exclusive to the United States. Everyone all over the world is falling prey to scammers more accurately presenting themselves as legitimate accounts.
Introducing the McAfee scam detector
To fight this, McAfee now has a scam detector. Using the power of AI, the antimalware service can scan both text messages and emails for potential scams. It can also block suspicious links for you.
Now, because the software now uses AI, it can also use the same technology to more easily present why it found a threat. In the past, McAfee just showed users the errant file and called it a day. Now, the software offers readable explanations as to why the detected file might be a threat. It’s the perfect tool for those who aren’t savvy with computers.
Additionally, the same feature can analyze videos to see if they’re deepfakes. Of course, not every deepfake is a scam. But knowing if a video might be generated is a crucial skill these days.
A much lighter app
Despite adding a significant feature against modern scams, McAfee has somehow made its software lighter for modern PCs. According to a performance test from AV-Comparatives, McAfee ranks the lightest compared to other titans in the segment including Avast, AVG, and Kaspersky. Basically, using McAfee takes the least toll on your PC.
More interestingly, this comparison includes Microsoft Defender. There used to be a time when experts said that Microsoft’s built-in antivirus software was much better than most paid services. Now, it seems McAfee is fighting back against the claim by offering a much lighter service that can work in the background without interrupting whatever you’re doing.
Available on all plans
Importantly, McAfee’s new scam detector is available on all plans. It’s also available for mobile, tablet, and PC use.
However, it isn’t available for all territories yet. McAfee is still working to get the feature implemented in other languages.

Strava is suing Garmin over alleged patent infringements
They want Garmin to stop selling its watches.
It’s always awkward when two of your close friends start to fight. For the fitness-minded, Strava and Garmin are what you might call close friends. And yes, they just got into a fight. In an odd change of heart, Strava is suing Garmin for alleged patent infringement.
The fitness segment in tech has one of the most tight-knit collections of companies. Despite how many of them there are, it’s highly likely that one will work with the other. Strava, for example, works well with Garmin’s smartwatches. The two giants were formerly adamant about working together.
Now, the situation has mysteriously changed. Strava is suing Garmin over patent infringements involving the latter’s segments and heatmaps features. The case also alleges that Garmin violated a Master Cooperation Agreement when the company developed its own heatmap technology.
For compensation, Strava is asking the courts to stop Garmin from selling any of its smartwatches which include the infringing features. That’s pretty concerning when most of Garmin’s devices have those features.
According to an official post on Reddit, the proverbial straw the broke the camel’s back is Garmin’s new policies. Partnered software must now include Garmin’s logo in activity posts. Otherwise, Garmin will reportedly revoke access to its API.
Curiously, as some commenters pointed out, Strava has done the same thing in the past. And, according to DC Rainmaker, who first spotted the case, Garmin doesn’t, in fact, require the logo.
It’s still up in the air whether the litigation will result into anything substantial. However, speculation says that Strava might eventually drop the case since Garmin can definitely retaliate.
