WSJ: Motorola RAZR to make comeback with foldable phone

Nostalgia in modern-day form

Published

on

We’ve read rumors about Motorola’s iconic RAZR brand making a comeback multiple times already — the most recent of which was early last year — but a report by The Wall Street Journal gives us the most concrete news yet.

If plans push through, the next RAZR might be a foldable phone with a price tag of US$ 1,500. Even more surprising: It could launch by February, possibly during Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona!

Patent filed by Motorola in 2018

Sadly, the same report says that it might be exclusive to Verizon in the US, so worldwide distribution might be off the table. At the same time, with a price that high, it’s doubtful that mass production will even be required.

Other than that, information on this is scarce and nothing has been confirmed yet. There isn’t even any foldable phone currently available in the market; all we know is that Samsung might be the first to launch a concrete product, and it could happen before MWC 2019.

Lenovo currently owns the mobile section of Motorola, and hence the RAZR brand. With Nokia looking to revive the iconic PureView branding for the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView, which is slated to launch soon too, we may be entering a new era of nostalgia wars.
