OnePlus 9 Pro renders leaked for the first time

Launch date also mentioned

The OnePlus train never stops. Around a month after the OnePlus 8T’s launch, the OnePlus 9 is already popping up online. A previous leak hinted at an earlier launch date for the upcoming series. Now, a new leak reveals the OnePlus 9 Pro in all its glory for the first time.

On his Voice account, OnLeaks leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer posted an almost-finalized design prototype of the flagship phone. Though most of the design elements are “set in stone,” according to Hemmerstoffer, some might still change before the flagship’s launch.

At first glance, the OnePlus 9 Pro’s design looks all-too familiar. The phone’s chassis and front design borrow heavily from the previous OnePlus 8 — including the top-left punch-hole selfie shooter.

By far, the biggest change is on the phone’s rear. Instead of the traditionally centered camera island, the phone’s camera island comes from the OnePlus 8T’s and Nord’s camera setup: a larger island on the top-left corner. Although, according to Hemmerstoffer, this camera design is still changeable.

As for specifics, the smartphone will have a 6.55-inch curved display and a glass back. Supposedly, the rear camera setup houses four camera lenses.

Finally, Hemmerstoffer adds clout to the previous rumor that the flagship is launching earlier than expected. According to the leak, the OnePlus 9 series will launch sometime in March. Coupled with a recent leak, the OnePlus 9 series is likely one of the five smartphones launching with the upcoming Snapdragon 875 chipset early next year.

OPPO Watch Free

OPPO announced their latest OPPO Watch Free — a brand-new watch with all-scenario sleep monitoring.

The watch aims to be the entry-level smartwatch of choice for all, as it comes with Osleep for better sleep monitoring, as well as professional sport modes and other health functions.

Sleep well with OSleep

Osleep comes with professional, comprehensive, and personalized sleep monitoring and analysis throughout the sleep cycle.

This includes an exclusive snoring risk assessment monitored by sensors and advanced algorithms to detect sleep problems and come up with accurate suggestions.

OPPO’s latest smart watch uses a continuous second-level SpO2 monitoring through an optical SpO2 sensor, as well as an optical heart rate sensor to record snores, while other indicators like blood oxygen level is also tallied.

The OPPO Watch Free also analyzes users’ sleep latency, duration, and phases using its advanced features like deep and light sleep analysis and rapid eye movement (REM) monitoring to aid in better sleep.

OPPO and Tsinghua University partnered in establishing the Joint Research Center for Future Terminal Technology, conducting a number of joint research projects in the field of sleep to further explore sleep tracking technology.

Over 100 sport modes, pro health monitoring

When it comes to staying fit, the OPPO Watch Free has a built-in 6-axis motion sensor along with its optical heart rate sensor that supports over 100 sport modes.

The sensors automatically identify and record the sport modes using algorithms, making it easier for users to exercise and stay fit.

All activities may be checked through Daily Activity, which also features built-in professional running courses to help in one’s fitness goals.

Additionally, the OPPO Watch Free supports 24-hour heart rate monitoring, which records users’ heart rate around the clock.

A warning vibrate will automatically prompt users when heart rate becomes too high or if there are irregular heartbeats.

Even just simple stand-up reminders and 5-minute stand-up relaxation videos come with the product, which are best suited for office workers to be able to sneak in being fit and relaxed.

Germany: No evidence of spying from Xiaomi phones

One point for Xiaomi

Published

on

Xiaomi is currently in a strange position. Stemming from the still-ongoing Sinocentric geopolitics from years ago, the Chinese smartphone maker finds itself in a quest to prove its innocence against allegations of spying. Now, the company has an unlikely ally. Going against recently released reports confirming the phenomenon, Germany has come out and found no evidence of spying from Xiaomi in its own reports.

Last year, Lithuanian authorities called Xiaomi out for censoring both politically charged and seemingly innocuous terms from its smartphones. More recently, Taiwanese authorities confirmed the report, stating that Xiaomi’s smartphones do have the capability to transmit data to Chinese servers. Of course, most users, especially those outside of China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, will likely have nothing to worry about. That won’t stop security issues, though.

However, to ease everyone’s worries, Germany’s cybersecurity watchdog, the BSI, has reported that it has not found any anomalies inside the Chinese smartphones’ software, Reuters reports. However, the watchdog did not explain what type of testing it subjected the smartphones to. If anything, the German report does have some credence to it. The country was previously wary about Huawei during the whole Huawei fiasco years ago.

Since the brouhaha with Huawei from some time ago, Chinese smartphone brands have both struggled to fill in the vacuum left behind by Huawei and suffered through the same issues against Chinese companies.
