Vivo launches Y53i with Face Access and Ultra HD technology

It will be competing with Samsung’s Galaxy J2 and Xiaomi’s Redmi 5

Vivo launched the budget-friendly Y53i in India which will be competing against Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy J2 2018 and Xiaomi’s Redmi 5. The company has priced it very competitively at INR 7,990 (US$ 120) and it is available in Crown Gold and Matte Black color options across the offline stores in the country.

It features a 5-inch display on the front and the same monotonous design. The device runs on an octa-core Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that is expandable via a microSD card. In the camera department, there’s an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies.

According to Vivo, the unique selling point of the handset is its Ultra HD feature. The 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash can shoot multiple consecutive images and combine them to render clear photographs with a resolution as high as 32 megapixels. The device also features “screen flash” that lets you click selfies in dark surroundings as well.

Vivo has also added some software tweaks like App Clone that can replicate an app to accept two accounts, providing a more convenient multitasking experience. For the display, it features an eye protection filter that basically controls the warmth of the display. The device lacks a fingerprint scanner and hence Vivo has complemented it with Face Access — a simpler version of Face Unlock.

The device is backed by a decent 2500mAh battery and the standard range of sensors like ambient light, proximity, e-compass, and accelerometer.

“With the introduction of the Y53i, we are strengthening our budget smartphone portfolio by delivering an outstanding camera and user experience at a competitive price point,” said Kenny Zeng, CMO, Vivo India.

Last week Vivo launched the V9 Youth in India to further strengthen its product portfolio in the midrange segment. Vivo has now covered every price range in the country with a new product this year to accommodate the needs of all consumers.

Alongside the realme Buds, the brand announced its expansion in the smart TV segment with a new 55-inch offering. Officially called the realme smart TV SLED 55-inch, its unique selling point is its bezel-less screen and metal design that provide a premium experience.

realme says this is the world’s first TV with SLED 4K support that can deliver a cinematic experience at home. The SLED panel uses Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) technology for the backlighting which should optimally result in a wide color gamut range and protection against blue light.

Under the hood, it runs on Android 9 Pie thanks to a quad-core MediaTek processor and 16GB internal storage. The TV also includes a 24W quad stereo speaker system along with Dolby Audio technology.

realme has also shipped along built-in Chroma Boost Picture Engine that offers seven modes — Standard, Sport, Game, Vivid, Energy Saving, User, and Movie.

It supports Google Assistant and all popular apps can be downloaded via the Play Store. In terms of connectivity, the TV has the usual HDMI, USB, and ethernet ports along with WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.

The realme smart TV SLED 55-inch is priced at INR 42,999 (US$ 586), but it’ll be available for INR 39,999 (US$ 545) during its first sale as an introductory offer. Pre-orders start from October 16 and bookings can be made via realme store and Flipkart.

The company also launched a soundbar that’s officially called the realme 100W Soundbar. It’s equipped with two 2.25-inch 15W speakers and two 15W tweeters that provide a total output of 60W. The 40W subwoofer has a 50Hz to 24KHz enhancement and realme says it is capable of increasing the TV volume by 200 percent.

It’s priced at INR 6,999 (US$ 96) and sales start from October 16 via realme store, Flipkart, and Amazon.
