Xiaomi throws shade at OPPO’s slower fast-charging tech
Shows off its 100W alternative
Don’t you just hate empty batteries? Despite hundreds of innovations, the smartphone industry still hasn’t developed the best phone battery. In fact, the world’s biggest phone battery comes from Energizer, rather than more established phone makers. At the very least, the industry is developing better charging options.
Besides the traditional wired charging, smartphone companies have released fast charging and wireless charging methods. For example, OPPO launched the 50W SuperVOOC fast charging technology last year. Packaged with the new OPPO R17 Pro, the charger promises a charging time of 35 minutes from zero to full. The promise is quite surprising, given the phone’s 3700mAh battery. Currently, OPPO’s SuperVOOC is the world’s fastest charger.
Not to be outdone, Xiaomi is developing its own fast charging option — the Super Charge Turbo. In a Weibo post, the company’s president, Lin Bin, showed off their work-in-progress to the public through a demo video. The video compares Xiaomi’s 4000mAh device with an “unknown” 3700mAh device. Xiaomi’s device was charged with their upcoming 100W charger. Meanwhile, the 3700mAh device is charged with OPPO’s 50W option.
In the video, Xiaomi’s charger finished in 17 minutes. At that time, OPPO’s device was still at 65 percent. Given their battery sizes, Xiaomi’s upcoming charging technology is quite impressive off the bat.
Unfortunately, the 100W charger will launch to a lack of support. Currently, Xiaomi’s devices support only up to 27W wired charging. Xiaomi has not launched a device that can support the technology. However, the company will hopefully launch a device to go with the charger.
