iPhone 14 release date reportedly leaked

September is fast approaching. While the month normally heralds the coming of the holiday season, it is also known for a key event in the smartphone world: the launch of the next iPhone 14 series. Historically, Apple launches its next lineup of smartphones during the month. As always, the next step is figuring out when the event exactly is.

Ahead of any sort of official announcement, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has a date penciled in for the next Apple event. According to the report, Apple will host the next event on September 7. As expected, the event will debut the much-awaited iPhone 14 series. As with its other events in the recent past, the company will have an online event, rather than a live presentation. Additionally, the brand is expected to release the phones as early as September 16.

A lot is riding on the upcoming lineup. Aside from the regular duo, the two Pro variants will reportedly feature major changes from the previous generation (and its regular versions).

For one, the duo will exclusively sport the next A-series chipset from Apple. Secondly, it will reportedly lose the ever-controversial notch for a more conventional punch-hole camera. It will also have an always-on display.

The series will debut as Apple faces a torrent of pressure from countries to switch to USB-C. While the upcoming event will likely have only a few conversions, this might be the last time we’ll see an iPhone lineup exclusively using Lightning cables. Apple is supposedly switching over to the universal standard as soon as next year.

Of course, before getting your hopes up, Apple has not announced the event officially yet.

Google Pixel 7 series puts premium on photo, video

We’ve seen what they look like and now they have officially been launched. The Google Pixel 7 series. featuring the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, is ready to take on other flagships.

‘Most refined design’

Google says the Pixel 7 series has the “most refined design” of any Pixel phone to date. It has a smooth glass back with an aluminium frame. And of course, there’s the signature Camera Bar. The Pixel 7 Pro has a polished aluminium finish while the Pixel 7 is in matte. They are also made with recycled materials.

Both phones have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. And the displays are scratch resistant with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Google Tensor G2, enhanced photo and video

Powering the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro is the Google Tensor G2 chip. It’s custom-built for Pixel and was made to take advantage of Google’s advanced machine learning and speech recognition.

Naturally, it also makes the phones run faster and smoother. It’s also responsible for the Pixel’s vaunted photography capabilities. But Google says it’s now extending to video too. It enables features like next-gen Super Res Zoom, twice faster Night Sight processing, Face Unblur, and Cinematic Blur.

The Pixel wants to remain king in low-light imaging. Its large main sensor lets more light in. Combined with computational photography, the Night Sight feature is promising to be better than ever. The Pixel 7 series can now also shoot 4K60fps videos.

Secure with more features

Equipped on both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro is the Titan M2 security chip. Together with the Tensor G2 chip, it helps the Pixel be built with multiple layers of security. You also get the usual Face and Fingerprint unlocks. It’s also designed for prolonged use as Google promises up to five years of security updates.

Additional features include At a Glance which immediately displays the right information at the right time. Google cites the baggage claim at the airport as an example. But there’s also other appointments and meetings listed on your calendar. There’s also Assistant Voice typing that lets you type with your voice. It now supports Spanish, French, and Italian.

The Pixel 7 series also has the Adaptive Battery Feature. It learns your usage patterns and optimizes the phone to make sure it lasts for about 24 hours. It also supports 30W charging, promising a 50% charge in about 30 minutes.

Price and availability

In the US, the Pixel 7 starts at only US$ 599. And it’s available in Snow, Obsidian, andLemongrass. Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 Pro starts at US$ 899. And it’s available in Snow, Obsidian, and Hazel.

In Singapore, the Pixel 7 series is now available for pre-order and will arrive on store shelves on October 13.

The Pixel 7 with 128GB storage retails for SG$ 999 and is available in Snow, Lemongrass, and Obsidian. Meanwhile, the 256GB version is priced at SG$ 1,129 and comes in Obsidian.

The Pixel 7 Pro 128GB is priced at SG$ 1,299 and comes in Snow, Hazel, and Obsidian. The 256GB version is available only in Obsidian and retails for SG$ 1,449.

Twitter now allows mixing videos, photos, and GIFs in one tweet

Throughout the years, we’ve seen how Twitter has evolved, from having a lengthier character limit to replacing squares with circles in its overall page and app layouts.

Now, the popular networking site has come up with a new update which will allow users to post videos, photos, and GIFs all in one tweet.

This change has been tested in the last few months with popular creator and brand accounts across the sports, music, and entertainment industries.

Here are some examples:


Starting today, all users on the platform may now be able to take advantage of the ability to mix different media in a single tweet.

There will still be a maximum of four media in one tweet, but the change definitely gives users more room for creativity in their posts to standout and be more engaging.

Judging from the examples above, the posts kind of mimic Instagram content; it might lessen the need for Twitter threads too.

Instagram will start to put ads on a user’s profile

Ads are everywhere. Several platforms are testing where and how much they can put without raising a lot of fuss from their users. On a few occasions, a platform can cross the line, prompting a wave of reprisals. Instagram, for example, backtracked on a controversial decision to pump out more recommended posts and ads after massive backlash. Despite the recency of the controversy, Instagram is back again with another ad-fueled decision: ads on user profiles.

This week, Meta announced that two more types of ads are coming to Instagram. The first type is a natural extension of what the platform already has. Instead of hiding video ads deep within the Explore section, these short videos will start popping up right on the section’s landing page. Since the section already has ads, it might not be as intrusive, especially when compared to the second type.

Besides a new spot in the Explore feed, Instagram is also adding ads to a user’s profile. Likely to a lot of users’ dismay, it is what it says on the tin. Offering some consolation, the platform won’t spoil a profile’s grid with an ad. Instead, when a user clicks on a post on the profile, the vertical feed, which usually shows a timeline of the profile’s content, will contain spots for ads.

Instagram has not officially confirmed which users will get the feature. However, the company is currently testing it for select creators. It also assures users that it will come only on public profiles, not private individuals.
