Capcom reveals new Onimusha: Way of the Sword trailer
Featuring Sasaki Ganryu
Capcom has dropped the latest trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the highly anticipated new installment in the Onimusha series, set for release in 2026. Meet Sasaki Ganryu: A Deadly Rival
One of the most exciting reveals from the trailer is Sasaki Ganryu, also known as Sasaki Kojiro, a master swordsman whose fate is intertwined with the legendary Miyamoto Musashi. Players can expect fierce one-on-one sword battles between these two warriors, both wielders of the enigmatic Oni Gauntlet—a powerful artifact with supernatural abilities.
But Musashi and Sasaki are not alone in this mysterious world. The final moments of the trailer tease the appearance of a mysterious woman, bathed in the glow of Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet. Who she is—and what role she plays in the unfolding story—remains unknown.
A deep dive into ultimate sword-fighting action
Capcom has emphasized that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will feature fast, fluid sword combat, perfecting mechanics like the Issen, a precise counterattack executed just before an opponent’s strike lands.
Other powerful moves showcased in the trailer include:
- Devastating finishing techniques with hammer-like dual weapons.
- Explosive strikes that visually shatter the air.
These mechanics promise an exhilarating gameplay experience that blends tactical precision with cinematic combat.
New environments & deadly Genma creatures
The trailer also unveils a stunning new stage, featuring floating ruins and massive airborne boulders, adding an otherworldly element to the adventure. This contrasts with previously showcased locations, such as Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera, suggesting players will traverse both historic and fantastical settings.
Additionally, Capcom revealed new terrifying Genma enemies, including:
- Daidara – A hulking menace wielding a colossal club, driven by insatiable hunger.
- Kubi Akari – A floating, pale-skinned Genma that absorbs souls Musashi needs for his gauntlet before unleashing powerful energy blasts.
With intricate sword-fighting mechanics, visually breathtaking environments, and a mysterious, lore-rich narrative, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is shaping up to be a must-play experience for both longtime fans and newcomers to the series.

Ubisoft co-founder dies in plane crash
Claude Guillemot was one of five brothers that founded Ubisoft.
Claude Guillemot, one of the four co-founders of Ubisoft, has died last week in a plane crash. He was 69 years old.
As reported via Bloomberg, Guillemot died alongside the plane’s other passenger. They both died in La Baule in France.
Regardless of how you feel about the company today, Ubisoft is still an undeniable reason why RPGs are so popular. In 1984, Guillemot started the company with his four brothers. Since then, it’s become a household name for gaming. Its portfolio includes Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Anno, and Far Cry. Despite the prolific resume, the company is currently struggling to recreate the magic that made it so popular over a decade ago. Its current efforts include remaking Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, which launches next month.
Though Claude might not be your first thought when thinking of Ubisoft, the company is still owned by the family, headed by his brother Yves. Claude, however, was the chairman of Guillemot Corp.
“Ubisoft was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further statements will be made at this time,” Ubisoft said about his passing.
