Qualcomm teases a new Snapdragon X series
Coming to PCs
It’s been a while since Qualcomm started revamping the naming scheme of its extensive lineup of products. Compared to the more technical names of the last generation, the brand now offers a more accessible convention. Today, it is further expanding the naming of its PC-based lineup. Presenting: the Snapdragon X series.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much to present. Qualcomm has not released a new chipset in the series yet. However, the brand is paving the way for it with the new naming convention. Starting with the next one, Qualcomm’s PC chipsets will be named Snapdragon X.
The higher PC lineup wasn’t exactly left behind in the initial wave of naming changes. Prior to Snapdragon X, Qualcomm released chipsets in this lineup under the Snapdragon 8cx moniker. Arguably, keeping the “8” in the name wasn’t enough to differentiate the PC lineup from the smartphone one.
Changing to X will usher in the next generation of PC chips for the brand. It’s not just the name, either. Starting with the next chipset, the series will feature the new in-house Oryon CPU.
The Snapdragon X series is only one part of the company’s PC lineup, though. Amid the new naming convention, Qualcomm has not announced changes for the Snapdragon 7c chipset series, a set usually found in Chromebooks.
With the new naming already out, it’s likely that Qualcomm will launch the new processors before the year ends.
