Samsung Galaxy S22 Series now official

Featuring the Galaxy Note legacy

The Samsung Galaxy flagship phones continue to be the worst kept secrets in the industry. But the Galaxy S22 Series, despite being the topic of leaks and rumors, still feels exciting as it offers something kind of different for the S series. Yes, it’s still the usual base model S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra variety. But the S22 Ultra sports a look more reminiscent of the Galaxy Note line.

Fans of the Galaxy Note line missed the series last year as Samsung skipped over it for a variety of reasons. It makes a return ‘in spirit’ with the Galaxy S22 Ultra which not only follows the Galaxy Note design language, it also has the signature S Pen. Truly, it’s a Galaxy Note in everything but name.

Galaxy S22 Ultra

This is it. This is what over a decade of the S series and the Note series comes down to. The Galaxy S22 Ultra fuses the outstanding camera capabilities of the S series with the portable productivity of the Note series.

Samsung is touting its lowlight/night time capabilities more than anything else. Even going as far as coining the term “Nightography.” The company is promising superb lowlight and night time camera performance whether for photo or video. This is through the combination of its  2.4um pixel sensor, Super Clear Glass Lens, and their usual computational photography.

But the biggest addition is the S Pen. Essentially, it has everything you might expect from a Galaxy Note, but now it’s in the Ultra edition of the S series. Samsung says the S Pen now has 70 percent more latency and unlocks all the productivity and creativity possibilities available on the Galaxy Note series.

In terms of looks, the Galaxy S22 Ultra shares more similarities with the Galaxy Note line than the Galaxy S series. It’s massive, premium, and boxy. Fans of the Galaxy Note series will most likely gravitate to the Ultra.

Samsung also held nothing back in its build, opting for Corning Gorilla Glass Victus all over the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The rest of the series also share the same build.

Galaxy S22+ and S22

We enter more familiar S series territory with the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22.

These couple of flagships look a lot more like their predecessors and is what we’ve come to expect from the Galaxy S series. Samsung is placing an emphasis on imaging, particularly low-light/night time photography and videography. Both software and hardware come into play to achieve the results the company is boasting about.

The phones will also be powered by either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip or an Exynos 2200 depending on your region. Both promise superior performance while saving power consumption. Samsung is also banking on its ONE UI 4 Android skin to deliver a smooth performance.

Like the Ultra, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus all over. A significant bump from the ‘glasstic’ in last year’s models.

Here’s a rundown of their specs to see what’s the same and what’s different.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Hands-on: Note reborn!

The reincarnation of the Galaxy Note?

Published

on

With the absence of the Galaxy Note21 Ultra last year, a lot of news have buried down the Galaxy Note series early into its coffin.

But Samsung might have actually resurrected the Galaxy Note back in shape. Just like what renders, leaks, and news tell, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is undoubtedly the reincarnation of the Galaxy Note line. Getting cues from 2020’s Galaxy Note20 Ultra, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is looking more edgy yet a refined piece of slab.

With a built-in S-Pen unlike last year’s optional S-Pen accessory, do you think the Galaxy S22 Ultra can live on with the Note spirit?
