The retro PlayStation themes are back on PS5

Four themes are available

Published

on

Last year, PlayStation introduced its most sparkling update yet. And no, it’s not the PlayStation 5 Pro. To celebrate the console’s 30th anniversary, the PS5 received a few themes corresponding to all the different eras throughout the decades. Sadly, because the anniversary has come and gone, the timed themes are also gone, but not without extracting a promise from Sony to bring them back permanently.

Today, Sony has revealed when the classic themes are coming back. Starting April 24, PlayStation 5 users can once again change their themes to reflect older generations of the console. The four permanent themes will showcase the designs of the console’s past.

Currently, the returning themes are only visual. Though the past versions also replicated the past console’s audio cues, the newer versions will not.

The same update also introduces a new feature called Audio Focus. While playing games with a pair of headphones attached via USB or audio jack, players can ask the system to boost certain sounds to hopefully improve gameplay. For example, the system can boost voices, quiet sounds, low-pitched noises, or high-pitched ones.

The new update is rolling out now. If you want to customize how your console looks, Sony now offers a lot of options for users to try out.

Tales of Xillia Remastered

Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia has officially released Tales of Xillia Remastered on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, with a next-day launch for PC via Steam. The announcement comes with the game’s new launch trailer.

The remaster returns one of the series’ most beloved entries, now updated with sharper visuals, major gameplay upgrades, and quality-of-life improvements. It also includes more than 40 DLC items from the original release.

Set in Rieze Maxia, a world where humans and spirits live together, Tales of Xillia Remastered lets players experience the story through either Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman guided by four great spirits, or Jude Mathis, a young medical student from the capital. The remaster introduces several key upgrades, including:

  • Auto-save and destination icons for smoother exploration
  • Early access to the Grade Shop with toggles for purchased perks
  • Enemy encounter toggle, letting players turn off field and dungeon battles when they want to focus on story
