Lenovo unveils new business notebooks under the ThinkPad line
A lot of new ThinkPads to choose from
Apart from mobile phones, MWC is also a place where new notebooks get introduced like these new ThinkPads from Lenovo.
Known for their robust and business-ready designs, the ThinkPad line of laptops welcomes five new models that range from the smallest in the family to a well-specced 15-inch variant
ThinkPad X390
Lenovo’s newest ThinkPad X390 is currently the smallest notebook in the series. It’s got a 13-inch display inside the body of a 12-inch laptop thanks to the reduced bezels all around. Powered by the latest Intel Core processors, the ThinkPad X390 can deliver almost 18 hours of battery life.
The laptop features the new ThinkPad PrivacyGuard in the display for extra security from prying eyes. Also, the ThinkPad now has a hybrid HD and IR camera with ThinkShutter for the user’s privacy.
The ThinkPad X390 will come with up to 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe SSD. Ports-wise, it has everything including Thunderbolt 3 and the new side mechanical docking system for ThinkPads.
It’ll go on sale as early as April starting at US$ 1,099.
ThinkPad X390 Yoga
Of course, there’s got to be a Yoga variant of the new ThinkPad. The ThinkPad X390 Yoga is practically the same as its non-Yoga sibling, although this one has a 360-degree hinge for its 13.5-inch display. Since the body of the Yoga model is a little bit bigger, Lenovo is able to put in an onboard pen.
The ThinkPad X390 Yoga features the latest Intel Wi-Fi 6 Gig+ module and dual far-field noise-canceling microphones. It also has the hybrid HD and IR camera with ThinkShutter.
The 2-in-1 convertible will be powered by the latest Intel Core processors with up to 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe SSD. It’s rated to last up to 14.5 hours on a single charge.
Price starts at US$ 1,359 and it’ll be available starting May.
ThinkPad T490
For a more visually rich business laptop, there’s the ThinkPad T490 with its 14-inch WQHD IPS display with Dolby Vision. The laptop impresses in the sound department too with its up-firing Dolby Audio Premium speakers.
As expected, the ThinkPad T490 will be powered by the latest Intel Core processors with up to 48GB of DDR4 memory (an insane amount for a business laptop) and up to a 1TB PCIe SSD. It’ll also have the new NVIDIA GeForce MX250 if you choose the variant with discrete graphics.
The ThinkPad T490 has security features including the ThinkPad PrivacyGuard, PrivacyAlert, and the new hybrid HD and IR camera with ThinkShutter.
The laptop will be on sale starting in March with a base price of US$ 999.
ThinkPad T490s
The ThinkPad T490s is the slimmer version of the ThinkPad T490. It comes in a lighter and thinner package, but it still houses the latest audio-visual technologies for laptops including the 14-inch WQHD Dolby Vision display. If you don’t need those, it’ll feature low-power display options, as well.
Specs-wise, it comes with the latest Intel Core processors with up 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe SSD. Due to its slimmer profile, the only graphics option is the onboard Intel HD Graphics 620. On the bright side, the laptop comes with a Thunderbolt 3 port and the new side mechanical docking for external peripherals.
Pricing starts at US$ 1,279 and it’ll be in stores by April. The silver color option of the ThinkPad T490s sports the new aluminum top cover, which is a refreshing sight in the sea of black ThinkPads.
ThinkPad T590
If the ThinkPad T490s is slimmer, the ThinkPad T590 is the bigger sibling with its 15.6-inch display. With more screen real estate, the ThinkPad T590 has plenty to offer including a 4K HDR screen with Dolby Vision and discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics.
The ThinkPad T590 also comes with the latest Intel Core processor with up to 48GB of DDR4 memory and up to a 1TB PCIe SSD. With its big display and beefier specs, the laptop can last for up to 15 hours using its 57Wh battery.
Since it’s still a ThinkPad, it’s packed with the usual package of privacy and security features including the ThinkShutter for the webcam. Of course, the added space means it can accommodate more ports like a Thunderbolt 3 and even a full-size HDMI.
Price starts at US$ 1,029 and it’ll become available in March.
