Galaxy S21 will lose the microSD slot, leak says

Despite the promise of a new form factor, the upcoming Galaxy S21 series will likely lose more than that it’s gaining. According to previous leaks, the flagship series will follow in Apple’s footsteps, eliminating the free charging adapter from its package. Now, less than two weeks until its launch, the Galaxy S21 series will lose another key feature: a microSD slot.

Reported by leaker Roland Quandt, two sources have confirmed that the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 Plus will not have a microSD slot. Meanwhile, the leading variant, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, will still get a slot.

Further, Quandt says that the S21 Ultra will top out at 512GB and 16GB of RAM. Two lower variants, 128GB and 256GB, will come with only 12GB of RAM.

If true, Samsung is potentially packing all its best features inside its best variant. Contrarily, other smartphone brands have it in reverse: packing fan favorite features in lower variants while keeping more experimental iterations for the premium segment.

If anything, Quandt says that the information is likely true for European markets. Though the leaker is confident about the source, American and international markets are still a mystery.

Confirmed yesterday, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 series on January 14.
